I thought the folks here might be interested in the Arkansas Times story by Mara Leveritt, about the New Orleans disaster and how it could have been, should have been, and was predicted. http://www.arktimes.com/Articles/ArticleViewer.aspx?ArticleID=f4ffd83d-54d7-4eb2-90d4-2837626eb449

1. Thanks for posting -- and welcome to DU. |

More evidence Bush saw the disaster coming and just fiddled: literally and figuratively.

It's terrible to know that something is inevitable, but knowone wants to know.

Ever since The Arkansas Gazette was merged with that vile newspaper, the Arkansas Democrat, it's not worth wiping one's ass with.
The only bright journalistic note in Arkansas these days is the Arkansas Times. Isn't that where Gene Lyons is employed?
On edit: I have to add my two cents worth about that reptile, Asa Hutchinson. He is quite possibly the stupidest person in Congress. I am NOT joking. He's a proud graduate of John Brown University in South Carolina. Does anybody recall what made this so-called University famous? Interracial dating was strictly forbidden with any infraction of this rule resulting in expulsion. Isn't that special? What should we expect from someone in the current administration?

5. with Ivan, Category 5 Traffic Jam |
|
"We had that talk last fall, about the time Hurricane Ivan was blustering off Louisiana’s shore. For five days it held to a track that aimed it straight at New Orleans.
At the last minute, Ivan veered east. But by then thousands of the city’s residents had evacuated – or, at least, had tried to.
The evacuation had turned into a Category 5 traffic jam. And that was despite the fact that thousands of other residents hadn’t even tried to leave because they didn’t own cars."
