Come to Florida - But enter at your own risk
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 02:44 AM by RagingInMiami
Warning that Florida streets have the potential to morph into the O.K. Corral, gun-control advocates will launch an international campaign to alert travelers about a new state law that allows people to use deadly force in self-defense.

On Saturday it will become legal to use force on an attacker without first trying to escape the confrontation.

Supporters say the measure, which they dub the "Stand Your Ground" law, allows residents to protect themselves by meeting force with force.

Opponents, who call it the "Shoot First Law," warn it could hand itchy trigger fingers a license to kill.

2. Despite the draconian penal system in Florida, this law reflects

...the fear of the privileged of the increasing danger in Floridas streets, municipal parks and other public places from the underclass of destitute people, homeless, addicts, unemployed, mentally ill, brain injured, mentally retarded, and fugitives from the laws. All of these groups have nowhere to go in Florida's public policy laboratory of social Darwinism and Bible Belt puritanism.

The elitist government is saying in so many words, we know we're creating an unsafe society, so carry a gun or knife and protect yourself.

3. perhaps a little less known fact about the bush family is that,
other than oil, they've also traded and made money in munitions and guns... thus, an added value to them in having wars and gun totting individuals at the bush boys' okay corral country.

4. "... a license to kill ..."
I already had the right to use deadly force for self defense. (?)

5. New law says if you "think" someone is causing you to be in danger
fire away - although the police in Florida are saying to gun owners that they should be aware that a judge may find that the thought or fear did not justify the killing. But you do have one hell of an affirmative defense via your "thought".

In any case Florida honors all carry lic except for folks from Mass, Texas, and Vermont (Vermont does not require a carry lic - so via Florida logic a Vermonter can not carry in Florida, Mass allows local decisions on carry - so a state to state agreement is not possible, and Texas - well Texas is just Texas.)
