Editorial: Cheney's blockages / His health should be of national concern
Dick Cheney's knees may not seem worth a second look. However, the vice president's latest hospitalization to repair aneurysms in both knees raises red flags that deserve more attention.

Most people breathed a sigh of relief that Mr. Cheney's hospitalization had nothing to do with his long history of heart problems. He has had four heart attacks, quadruple bypass surgery, two angioplasties and surgery to implant a pacemaker-like device that can prevent sudden death from an erratic heart beat.

Those aneurysms, however, had everything to do with Mr. Cheney's heart problems. The disease underlying most heart attacks -- atherosclerosis -- usually is a body-wide problem.

Deposits of cholesterol and other material that plug arteries in the heart also form in blood vessels elsewhere in the body. Atherosclerosis takes a toll on artery walls that can lead to weak spots, which balloon out and form an aneurysm almost like a bubble on a garden hose. The disease also can plug blood vessels in the legs and neck, for instance, in ways that sharply increase the risk of a stroke.

2. If Cheney stepped down, would Bush be allowed to select a new...
...vp or is there an order of succession? I should remember this from the Agnew resignation, but I don't.

11. So, he'd probably give it to Jeb, to jumpstart the next Bush prez campaign
And because, that Jeb, he really knows how to handle a hurricane.

4. As an old person
my very own self (Hahaha) I often wonder if the sick and senile old people in our government and those running it really give-a-shit about tomorrow.

For instance does the Vice Pres really care if the USofA fades into oblivion in ten years? Does he really care about all the oil be gone the air be dirty the ice be melting the animals be dying the flowers be gone and our progeny be dying?

Does he? Do they?

I doubt it.

6. The quicker Jesus takes him home, the better for America.
No one pushed for the Iraq war more than him. Bush was pushing for it because Cheney told him to.

Die. Go to hell. Dick.

13. Jesus will press the "Elevator Down" button on Cheney.
He is definitely Satan's sidekick. He has committed evil and has used Christianity and God's name to do it. He will burn in hell for what he has done.

8. Thank you for posting this. I have been saying this for awhile now.
My late husband had a very similar cradiac history and was forced to retire from his business due to his health. I've seen up close how debilitating how a heart condition can be and I cannot understand how Cheney manages in his job.

15. "Most people breathed a sigh of relief..."
Um...who the hell are these "most people" the author is speaking of? What a crock. I'd say "most people" had a decidedly different reaction, as in: "fingers crossed", wishing and hoping for another outcome...

17. I'm Disappointed That
we didn't get an opportunity to change vice presidents, personally. But, there's stilll time. If all goes well, Cheney will be out of the picture before Bush is hauled off to prison, and the GOP will have lost the House and Senate.
