Orange County (CA) Register: Time to give up on national Republicans
Time to give up on national Republicans

At the end of the day, Bush supporters (including me) argued that we have to vote him into office, rather than the leftist Kerry (and Gore) because of the judges. Sure, Republicans in Washington these days spend as much as Democrats, and sure Republicans support police-state stuff like the Patriot Act, and sure Republicans never challenges socialist programs once they are part of the government, and sure they sell out on everything and like to fight wars, etc. But at least they pick conservative, strict-constructionist judges. Right? Well, maybe half the time. Judge Roberts was a good choice, far better than anyone Kerry would have picked. But given the chance to tilt the court a tad to the right, Bush picked a liberal who once supported Gore and is on record supporting some liberal causes. The case for Bush is quite weak. Republicans are still worth supporting at the state and local level, but there is no reason to support them anymore at the national level.

2. How about those San Diego R's? They bankrupted the city!
or how about the Mayor of Spokane or Gov. Rowland of CT or....I could go on and on.

Republicans fall into two categories: worthless and exposed as worthless.

9. Oh, how could I forget Bob Taft! And also Gov. Fletcher of KY.
And also former Gov. Martz of Montana. Just off the top of my head I can think of these without any effort.

Oh, I dunno. Maybe Republicans make good dogcatchers. Wait! Wasn't the BTK killer, a church-going Republican, an Animal Control Officer?

3. Nothing sadder, and more common, than a misinformed Republican.
She gave two grand to dems two decades ago. She was White House aide, last week. Guess where her loyalties lie.

She donated $150 to a group that supports pro-life legislation, not the opposite as reported in the half-assed bizarro world of right-wing journalism.

Fine, be stupid.

4. THIS IS THE ANSWER I SENT TO MR GREENHUT AT THE OC REGISTER.

Yes, I agree....its about time. Heck, it was about time back in 2000 but you didnt listen to us. Just decided that a man named Bush, whose father was CinC before him,. would be perfect for the number one job. Well, a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then and a lot of evidence has been shoved in front of us that he was not the best man for the job.
Republicans are finally finding that out.

Now, , first, I have to take issue that Judge Roberts was a better choice than anyone that Kerry would have picked. You sure of that? How do you know who he would have picked? I doubt that you are a pswychic or have a crystal ball. You really come across as a spoiled child when you make a statement such as the Kerry statement. And we all know that Kerry, or Gpore or any other democrat or republican would have made a better choice than Harriet Miers. She is the result of pure Bush cronyism...no experience, no temperment and I suspect we will find a background filled with some truly bizarre actions by her.

And personally, this issue of her being Born Again, scares the hell out of me. We both know that Born Agains allow themselves to be guided not by common sense but by the writing of men who never iomagined a world such as we now live in. And I would suspect that most Americans would rather a supreme court justice not be on the religious right but in the secular middle so she is capable of dealing with all people of all beliefs.

I also have to take issue with your contention that while you can give up on national Republicans, state and local GOPers are still okay. Oh yeah. These are the same people who have backed Bush on every idiotic idea he has had and who have made excuses for him at every turn. They are just as bad as National Repubs....these are the people who agree that if you criticize Bush you hate America and are a traitor. These are the one who wave the flag and demand we all support the troops but when the mother of a dead soldier wants to know the reason why he died, they excoriate her mercilessly. These are not patriots...they are nationalists and that tends to get people in trouble over and over again.

I would suggest you give up on all republicans and turn to the folks who truly care about people regardless of their station in life.

5. I beg to differ. These people are not nationalists.
They care nothing for the well-bing of the nation. They are corporatists. They confuse the nation with the parasites that are killing it.

10. tHE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PATRIOT AND A NATIONALIST IS:
THE PATRIOT is capable of acknowledging that there are other great nations in the world but he backs the United States.

The NATIONALIST believes no nation compares to his and while he backs the USA, his attotude is "screw the others."

6. Greenhut is an ass and deserves such a reply
Oh, he sits smugly in a super Conservative county that used to be libertarian, the birth place of the John Birch society and a welcome place for the KKK.

Greenhut loves his house and back yard in an appropriately zoned neighborhood, while loves to see cements every place.

So, yes, something like that will shake him in his boots a bit.

And... welcome to DU
