Radar Online: A Frist Time For Everything

http://radarmagazine.com/fresh-intelligence/#report_003418

I know, it's a rumor mag -- and an online one at that. But it's interesting speculation -- and this is the Editorials & OTHER Articles -- so give me a break, k?

So, if we can speculate that this has a glint of truth in it, why would the WH unleash the hounds on the Senate Majority Leader? Polls for everything Republican have been trending downward for quite some time. Perhaps they have it right: retribution is being served. They are quite willing to take another poll hit at a time when polls are low enough that another 5% drop in the polls simply isn't going to matter. The larger msg would be served to the rest of the party: tow the line or we serve you up. On a bigger picture, we can read into this one of 3 ways:
1) The republican elite believe they have '06 elections wrapped up regardless of what goes down in the immediate future.
2) The republican elite believe they've taken on enough damage that they want to put any potential scandals on the table now, deal with them and get them behind them as much as possible before '06.
3) The republican elite have lost faith in recovering before the '06 elections. They are cutting dead weight, dealing with all of their scandals & unscrupulous members (well, at least a few of the biggies) and serving notice to the rest of their party.

Lastly, it is interesting to note that until now, this administration has done a masterful job of handling the press regarding their scandals and ineptitude. Between the current Rove problems, the Delay problems, and now the Frist problems; you have a rather abrupt change. Why?

Anyone care to share some speculation/rumor-mongering with me?
