The Other Hurricane: Has the Age of Chaos Begun?
By Mike Davis

-------snip--------

If they are right, then we are living on the climate equivalent of a runaway train that is picking up speed as it passes the stations marked "Altithermal" and "Eemian." "Outside the envelope," moreover, means that we are not only leaving behind the serendipitous climatic parameters of the Holocene -- the last 10,000 years of mild, warm weather that have favored the explosive growth of agriculture and urban civilization -- but also those of the late Pleistocene that fostered the evolution of Homo sapiens in eastern Africa.

------snip---------

Damn!

In the span of time you are absolutely nothing. To scale it ( and I work with scales ) you are Nothing. ( No insult intended).

Abstract

The Arctic system is moving toward a new state that falls outside the envelope of glacial-interglacial fluctuations that prevailed during recent Earth history. This future Arctic is likely to have dramatically less permanent ice than exists at present. At the present rate of change, a summer ice-free Arctic Ocean within a century is a real possibility, a state not witnessed for at least a million years. The change appears to be driven largely by feedback-enhanced global climate warming, and there seem to be few, if any, processes or feedbacks within the Arctic system that are capable of altering the trajectory toward this "super interglacial" state.

10. Of course it has.
We have given the spinning top a good thump with our thumb,
and there is no telling where it will spin off to now, or
when and where it will settle down again.

11. I believe that the neo cons know that this is true, have taken steps to
"save" themselves and are just in the process of milking humanity for their last dime before the inevitable end for most of us...I just hope that their buying up the land over the worls's biggest aquifers is to no avail and that whatever they unleash will get them too!

12. Some of them, yes.
This is their last-ditch effort to get out in front before the collapse.
Many of the others are confusing environmental collapse with the Rapture, but their response is similar.
