USA desperate to shift blame for Iraqi mess on Syria and Iran
http://english.pravda.ru/world/20/91/366/16345_Iran.html

Condoleezza Rice does not exclude an opportunity for the USA to strike Syria and Iran

The International Committee of the US Senate has held yet another session devoted to the situation in the Middle East. The US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stated during the discussion that Iran and Syria were guilty of ongoing terrorist activities in Iraq. According to Rice, the US administration does not exclude an opportunity to strike the above-mentioned two states.

"Syria and indeed Iran must decide whether they wish to side with the cause of war or with the cause of peace," Rice said. According to the US Secretary of State, the two Mideastern states allow militants and military assistance reach insurgents in Iraq. Answering a question about a possible military operation against Syria and Iran, Rice said that the USA was still on a "diplomatic course" with Damascus but the military option remained open. "The President never takes any option off the table and he shouldn't," said Dr Rice when asked about a military option.

The US administration has been talking about a possibility of a war with Iran for 26 years already, since the time when the Islamic revolution occurred in the country. US officials have been reasoning the need to conduct a military operation against Iran with Tehran's nuclear program and the disagreement of the Iranian government to grant foreign inspectors access to its nuclear objects. This list has been added with notorious "international terrorism" accusations and Tehran's involvement in anti-American actions conducted by Muslim Shiites in Iraq.

snip...
It looks like the USA is ready to use any reason to make Arab states carry responsibility for US-led actions, which made Iraq become the hottest of all hot spots on the globe

I heard Cheney called Sharon @3:30 to ask him to bomb Syria cause US people would never unseat a war vice president!!! Is this his mission!!!

1. Condi, we've almost lost 2000 troops for W's wars
We don't need to add any more. For every death in the military, seven are injured.

2. Another reason the U.S. has to go after Iran
http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0830/p03s01-wome.html

Did anyone take note of the fact that Iran is planning to set up a euro-based energy exchange in 2006? Any country that tries to sell oil without using dollars seems to have a very short lifespan.

Saddam Hussein made billions because he switched from dollars and sold oil for euros right before the dollar sank against the euro. But he's not selling oil any more.

As the Christian Science Montitor asked, "Is the biggest threat Iran poses to the United States really its nuclear ambitions - or is it petropolitics?"

4. didn't hugo chavez switch to the euro a few yrs. ago?
Wasn't there a "coup" attempt a couple of yrs. ago? i think hugo was
removed while riots broke out and like saddam trouble came to hugo
by dumping the almighty u.s. dollar? What's the deal with chavez. One
thing I have seen is South American countries are coming together to
deny the Bush Crime Family the right to their natural resources.

5. If the US were to bomb Syria and Iran
it would be an absolute disaster. And even if we bomb those 2 countries, what would we do after that? Would we "take" them, i.e., march in and occupy them, like we did Iraq? What's the plan after that?

Are we going to "rebuild", like we're (not) doing in Iraq? Have they even thought about these things?

And just imagine what would happen to the Middle East after that. All those countries would unite against us. Hugo Chavez might cut us off. China would be so pissed, they might call their loans on us. Russia would spit on us, and they'd make sure there would be some BIG-TIME revenge for that.

The world would rise up against us, like we have never seen in this country.

6. Syria and Iran will retaliate. Israel will be destroyed (WMD).
The most likely scenario (IMHO) is chemical and
HE missile attacks from Syria and Iran, pretty much
everything they have, as what is not used will be
destroyed.

And Israel will retaliate, even if they are not
sure what to shoot at. Whether or not the other
big players choose to get involved is uncertain.
If I were Russia/China/India/EU etc. I would stand
aside and watch the bleeding, perhaps stoking the
fire a bit as Zbig claims to have done in Afghanistan,
but who knows?

One issue from the Israeli POV is that the longer
confrontation is delayed, the better Iranian "deterrent"
capability will be.

Of course, we could all resolve to get along.
