Fun from James Wolcott - new meme; liberal fascism.

"Also on NRO, John Podhoretz recently saddened the gallery by announcing he was taking a leave of absence from the Corner to finish cutting and pasting--I mean, finish composing--his forthcoming book on Hillary Clinton, which will be conveniently stocked near the lawn care section.

Such a book will fill a needy niche. There aren't near enough hardbound fits of hysteria by conservatives over Hillary Clinton. Sure, there was the Barbara Olsen book, and Peggy Noonan's, and R. Emmett Tyrrell's, and Laura Ingraham's, and all those Dick Morris instabooks, and, what's this I spy on the horizon?--why yet another Hillary book heading our way by Podhoretz's platonic bunkmate at the Corner, Jonah Goldberg. beguilingly titled Liberal Fascism: The Totalitarian Temptation from Mussolini to Hillary Clinton. 1. Mussolini was a liberal?
You know, we used to joke that the neocons were to the right of Atilla the Hun or Mussolini, but we always thought it was a joke.

It turns out it's true.

2. Booga, booga, booga!
Conservatives control the White House, the House, the Senate and the Supreme Court, and they still can't keep the "liberal fascists" from creating a totalitarian regime?

Didn't you get your survey this week? The one where the bosses of CBS and CNN ask us what news we want them to twist into liberal talking points? :sarcasm: :)

4. This in support of a party that is attacking habeas corpus, doesn't ..
.. believe in your right to a jury trial, wants to be allowed to continue to torture people to death in its worldwide network of secret prisons, covertly bribes journalists to push the party line while pretending to remain independent, uses terror alerts for political purposes, regularly destroys key public documents (such as the official ANWR map), promoted a forgery in the course of lying to start an unnecessary war, ...

“Bush=Hitler”
The politics of dangerous stupidity.

Suffice it to say that the Nazis weren't simply generically bad, they were uniquely and monumentally evil, not just in their hearts but also in literally billions of intentional, well-planned, and bureaucratized decisions they made every day.

And yet, in polite and supposedly sophisticated circles in America today it is acceptable to say George Bush is akin to a Nazi and that America is becoming Nazi-like.
