Tilting the Tax System in Favor of the Rich
Tilting the Tax System in Favor of the Rich

Teresa Tritch is an editorial board member who writes about economic issues and tax policy.

"The progressive tax system, which was set up to ensure that rich people shoulder a bigger share of the government's bills than the not-so-rich , is in trouble.

Wealthy individuals and large corporations have been steadily, and successfully, prevailing upon their congressional allies to rewrite the tax code, shifting more of the burden onto others.

Among their recent victories:
• Shrinking the estate tax
• Rolling back taxes paid by investors and corporations
• Using revenues from payroll taxes on workers to mask the cost of tax cuts for the rich

Congress came back from its summer recess this year planning to hand America's wealthiest families their biggest tax victory in years: permanent repeal of the estate tax.

.....SNIP"

2. Virtually every new initiative/change in the tax code tilts the shift
from corporations and the most affluent inexorably further on the backs of the middle class and working poor by design and intent: tilting the tax code in this manner is the heart, body, and soul of Repukedom.

3. This is only a short list...it's been going on since Reagan
cutting capital gains taxes
cutting taxes on dividends
cutting the top tax bracket

just to add a few.

We won't stop bleeding the working until we prohibit the wealthy from buying politicians offices.

This site explains the "Clean Elections" system. It is publicly financed. Until the public is paying the bill we will not get politicians who favor the general public. It is supported by both democrats and republicans where it has been implemented.
