Advertisements do make teens drink more, study shows
Teenagers and young adults who see more alcohol advertising are also likely to drink more, according to a study that makes the strongest link yet between exposure to adverts and youth drinking.

......

In a study at the University of Connecticut, scientists interviewed more than 4,000 Americans aged between 15 and 26 about their drinking habits and viewing of adverts. They found that each additional alcohol advert seen each month was associated with a 1 per cent increase in the average number of drinks consumed.

The effect could not be explained by people who already drank copiously seeking out and remembering alcohol advertising, suggesting that there may be a direct link.

Leslie Snyder, who led the study, said: “The results . . . contradict claims that advertising is unrelated to youth drinking amounts, that advertising at best causes brand switching, only affects those older than the legal drinking age, or is effectively countered by current educational efforts.

“Alcohol advertising was a contributing factor to youth drinking quantities over time.”

1. I want to see a study on the effects of country music on this
three consecutive videos on CMT just now: "Alcohol", "Beer for my Horses" and "Tequila makes her clothes fall off" none are bad songs, all are party videos, and this is the 'conservative' family values music? surely this has just as big of an impact as advertising, right?

and no, I don't think it should be censored or restricted.

3. for whom was the study conducted? WHAT advertising, since there is
none on tv, and I am pretty sure there aren't any liquor ads in magazines aimed at underage people.

7. Well, if they didn't then the ROI wouldn't be worth it
That's a big duh.

Manufacturers retailers and their advertising agencies aren't stupid. They're not going to keep throwing away money on campaigns that don't get results- they'll leave that to the Democratic leadership! :banghead:

The more I see The Asshole in Chief on Teeee-Veeee, trying to explain getting caught with his ear to our collective door with that stupid fucking "Wanna buy some Wood"? Mr. Happy-go-lucky look on his mug, the more *I* want to drink!

What the hell was that all about anyway? The presstitutes are asking him about the spying while he was telling all those lucky soldiers in San Anton that they'll be playing soccer in NO time, and he's got that "Tell Ya what Ah'm gwinna do, poddner" leer on his face.

Was *HE* Drunk? He sure as shit *LOOKED* drunk. After all, he'd already been to the "ranch" for a day...

12. No doubt about.
I see more and more hard liquor advertisements than ever these days. I thought the law prohibited such advertisements and was restrained to just beer ads?
