New Law Restricts Political Interference in Science

A report on the website for the Union of Concerned Scientists applauds the enactment of a new law on Friday. The new law makes it unlawful for the Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) to diseminate false or misleading advice. It also prohibits the screening of government scientific advisors on grounds of their political views or affiliations.

The BBC aired a special report by it's Washington correspondent Justin Webb on this subject on Tuesday 3rd Jan 2006 and is avialiable to listen to online in real audio format.
It illustrates the politicisation of science in the Whitehouse and the repeated appointment of cronies to advisory bodies after adequately qualified scientists were passed over because of their political views.
