First, he wants to reassure Americans that the U.S. occupation of Iraq is going well and that they should stay the course until he decides the Iraqis can take over more of their own security and allow a drawdown of U.S. forces. To that end, he has scheduled a speech at the Pentagon today and a session with former secretaries of state and defense tomorrow.

Second, he wants to call attention to what he considers the strong economy and take credit for keeping it that way.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think Bush is looking for outside advice because Cheney and him ain't talking anymore???

from CBS news
one of the secretary of defense invited is Albright

On Thursday, Bush meets with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense Condoleezza Rice and former secretaries of defense and state, including Madeleine Albright who served in the Clinton administration. Bush will be defending his strategies for curbing terrorism and outlining his game plan in the war.

1. What a joke of an article.
The article says that Bush does not want to give the impression that he's "inflexible", which is a concern that Americans have about him.

Bush wants to show that he's changed his policies due to problems in Iraq.

At the same time, Bush wants to be known as a principled leader. This is one of the few things that he has scored highly on; in particular when the U.S. was badly in need to leadership after 9/11.

He doesn't want to be seen as arrogant, which has probably also showed up in the polls.

Now I know why Bush will never succeed. His aides are idiots.
