Secret Service probes theft of Ford computer containing employee info

December 27, 2005 - A computer with the names and Social Security numbers of 70,000 current and former Ford employees has been stolen. It was taken from a facility in Michigan.

The company says right now there is no evidence of identity theft.
But all the affected workers are being notified. Ford will give those people help placing fraud alerts on their accounts and obtaining credit monitoring services. Ford will pay for those.

The FBI and the Secret Service are among the agencies investigating the theft.
