And, I am not posting this article to make the case that Iran should be attacked, but rather to give evidence that shows that separating church from state is a damn good idea...

She had no lawyer. She tried to defend herself. In the end the government took her to the noose. She was hung. The 16-year-old body was accused of committing "acts incompatible with chastity."

Her family tried to defend her. The court would have none of it.

Atefeh Rajabi was put to death after a "sham trial," according to Iran Focus.

She said in her report to the Islamic legalistic radical judge that "he should punish those who force women into adultery, not the victims." Her words fell on deaf ears, as if often the case in Muslim countries where women are worse than dung.

3. Gotta love religion in government

In case anyone hasn't seen the movie yet, this IS how it ends.

You cannot perpetuate a state-sponsored religion without the state controlling reproductive rights. Therefore, having children or sexual relations out of wedlock, having sex with someone of the same sex, or marrying outside of the religion are capital offenses punishable by death.

The idea of hanging gay teenagers and strictly controlling access to women's bodies under pain of death is the ultimate outcome of the patriarchal desire to control reproductive rights. Whether this particular story is verifiable or not, the facts are that verified honor killings exist and take place very single day in that part of the world.

And the odd thing is that Iran is a democracy, with elections and everything, a hundred times more successful than Iraq. We're bringing "democracy" to Afghanistan and Iraq - what a laughable simpleton idea.

Sometimes the enemy of my enemy is....a total asshole.

And no of course that doesn't mean I support attacking Iran. In fact I think by "liberating" Iraq we've just increased the posibility of these sort of atrocities taking place there as well.
