Traitors

By Ryan Chapman
January 18, 2006

Over Christmas break I watched an episode of the Late Show with David Letterman where one of Letterman's guests was Bill O'Reilly. Letterman, being one of the most unabashedly leftist talk show hosts in the country, quickly turned the discussion to the war in Iraq and began to harangue O'Reilly on everything that has gone wrong. He called O'Reilly a liar, said "people like him" are what is wrong with this country, and mocked him for disagreeing with Cindy Sheehan's protest tactics. All after admitting to never watching O'Reilly's program.

Many of you may be reading this and making the exact same realization I did. You also may be wondering how in the hell people can get away with rooting against their own country in a time of war, like I am. I have all the respect in the world for the First Amendment but this goes way beyond that. As far as I am concerned this behavior is treason and should be tried as such. The only problem is that I have no physical evidence of my claims; it just happens to be a theory of mine.

When Letterman decided to let his guest speak again, O'Reilly pointed out the exact thing I am talking about. He admitted the war was indeed a mistake but that at this point, it has to be won for the good of the country. He mentioned that Cindy Sheehan calling insurgents "freedom fighters" and countless other liberals calling the president a liar and murderer was not helping the cause but was, in fact, hurting it. Letterman struggled to refrain from cheering aloud for terrorists and their insurgent counterparts and simply ended the interview.

In the next few days, I foresee a lot of response from liberals claiming they are "appalled" by my comments and they do indeed want America to win the war in Iraq. These people are lying or at least most of them are. Though they would never admit it publicly, these people would feel just a little bit of joy at the thought of a pull out from Iraq. And that my friends, is just sick.

So when is Ryan heading out to MCRD San Diego to become an 0300? I'm sure a bright young man like him is just chomping at the bit to serve in Iraq, get him a few Hajiis to protect America. Why he's been practicing Pugil Stick training with friends and running 5-10 miles a day, some with 30 pounds of gear. It's being a rifleman or nothing. If he's lucky, it's Scout-Sniper school for him. Then maybe Recon. Because he's hard core.

Soon to be Private Chapman is just awaiting the day he can put on some dress blues and be squared away like a true Marine.

I mean, he couldn't possibly be sitting in his dorm room, fat as a rat, calling people traitors for not supporting a war he won't fight in.

Semper Fi, Ryan. I'm sure you'll do the Corps proud.

1. So, O'Reilly got a little taste of his own medicine.
Imagine! Going on to somebody's show only to be harrangued and called a liar. How could O'Reilly have possibly prepared himself to face such a situation?;(

14. Back in the begining, before the war
I used to use a variation on my real name.

I got... well, my wife got, a phone call from someone who was very threatening about something I had posted here.

Yes, they are creepy.

8. Here's some good ones:
When the draft is reinstated, I hope marketing majors aren't eligible for deferments. We need their skills to sell this ridiculous incursion.

TomMoye

I am an Air Force veteran and federal civil servant on a military base. I see close up how the military is hurting. Security for the base has been contracted out recently and the military security forces have been shipped overseas. From your column, I can tell you are a brave, patriotic American and I hope you prove it by enlisting in the military. Will you back up your words with action after graduation or do you have other priorities? I'm truly interested in your future plans.

I could not agree more! We have to start rounding up these 'people'.
We are all slaves to “tolerance” and “diversity”. There will never be freedom in America until everyone with unpopular political beliefs are relocated into concentrated zones.

WAKE UP WHITE PEOPLE!

1) Military experts agree we need more troops in Iraq.
2) Ryan Chapman writes his whine from a cozy dorm room while others fight the war he so loves.
3) Why does Ryan Chapman want the US to lose? Or is he just unwilling to make the sacrifice he demands of others?

The fact is liberals don't want us to lose, they just disagree with Ryan's concept of 'winning'. A war of indeterminate length with no exit strategy or concrete set of objectives is shaky at best. When the cost is 10,000's of Americans killed and maimed, many more innocent Iraqi's killed (and just how does Ryan expect Iraqi's to respect us when we are responsible for the deaths of so many of their women and children) and over $1 trillion dollars of US taxpayer money spent it's really just sickening. Ryan defines losing as bringing our troops home, I would define it as allowing them to die in the desert at a tremendous expense for no demonstrable and justifiable benefit. Now you can judge who has their country's best interest in mind and who is the 'traitor'.

lakema

Ryan,
I am glad to see that you are holding down the fort on the homefront in this time of war. Unfortunately, with Iran getting all funny on us, we're going to need bodies in the service.

Mind you, we appreciate that you are doing your part by watching David Letterman and writing opinion pieces in the ol' college paper, but this time, WE WANT YOU!

Why don't you cruise on down to your local recruiting center and sign up for the REAL fighting. Anything less would be, well, treasonous.

Semper Fi

One word of advice, if I may: marketing doesn't really seem like Ryan's strong suit, since it involves convincing people who don't already agree with a given idea. He's not so good at that.

Yeah, I'm sure the reason liberal nut job David Letterman has quietly spent his the holidays, even the holidays immediately after his son was born, as well as the ones after his heart attack on USO tours entertaining the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan is because he hates America and our troops and wants them to lose.

Unlike superpatriot Bill O'Reilly who has been to Iraq and Afghanistan...um...never. Although I can't really imagine any troop wanting to be entertained by Bill O'Reilly.

Were you this upset when Republicans were bashing Clinton's military action in Bosnia? By your logic, if you weren't vigorously defending Clinton's actions at that time, then you were being unpatriotic, weren't supporting the troops, were secretly "rooting" for them to lose and were treasonous. Get a grip, Ryan.

around them wonder how they get through the day without accidentally killing themselves. Stupid doesn't even begin to describe their condition.

I couldn't resist posting my tuppence worth on the comments section. He'll probably end up as a junior officer in the 81st Marketing Division(Airborne) when the draft is reinstated.

Those comments are beautiful.
