Not. Backing. Hillary. Molly Ivins (MUST READ!)
http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?itemid=20250

"What kind of courage does it take, for mercy's sake? The majority of the American people (55 percent) think the war in Iraq is a mistake and that we should get out. The majority (65 percent) of the American people want single-payer health care and are willing to pay more taxes to get it. The majority (86 percent) of the American people favor raising the minimum wage. The majority of the American people (60 percent) favor repealing Bush's tax cuts, or at least those that go only to the rich. The majority (66 percent) wants to reduce the deficit not by cutting domestic spending, but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes.

The majority (77 percent) thinks we should do "whatever it takes" to protect the environment. The majority (87 percent) thinks big oil companies are gouging consumers and would support a windfall profits tax. That is the center, you fools. WHO ARE YOU AFRAID OF? "

Regardless of whether you want Hillary or not, this is Molly at her best!

5. I liked the theme but a side benefit was the Twain reference at the end!
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 10:43 PM by acmejack
After a 16 month search, I recently acquired Mark Twain's "Weapons Of Satire Anti Imperialist Writings From the Philippine American War". It was surprisingly difficult (and expensive) to obtain, so I was pleased by the reference.

Edit: To capitalize Twain, because the master deserves a capital, unlike w

27. The Politics of War, Walter Karp Check it out!
Indispensable reference.
And we're sooooo walking thru history again.

check it out

An amazon review:
Karp, author of the brilliant book Indispensable Enemies, comes through again in this fascinating history book. Karp's underlying premise is that politicians start wars to destroy internal reforms wanted by the people. Here he shows how the Progressive movement was stymied by the Democrats and Republicans, with war as their chosen instrument.

21. Molly Ivins consistantly gets to the point.
Some one needs to start screaming about the fact that most people support so many of the progressive ideals. Our ideas and values are not marginal to the mainstream. That's just what those in power (read Repugs and their corporate masters) want people to think so they can keep those who are terrified of being seen as "different" in line. A living wage, the environment, health care -- people want to do the right thing about these issues.

And Ms. Ivins is so good at looking past the junk that is spewed in the corporate media and seeing the real truth and then ... writing clearly about it. I just can't help but gush about her!

23. I particularly like this line
"In World War I, they went around kicking dachshunds on the grounds that dachshunds were "German dogs." They did not, however, go around kicking German shepherds."

Right now the Dems are Weinier dogs, in the pejorative sense of weiner.

25. I love this woman! I print every column. She's a GEM! And right on!
Edited on Sun Jan-22-06 12:11 AM by DrZeeLit
I've felt this way for so long and it is extremely gratifying to see my views in print.
I would have liked to support Hilary Clinton, but I just cannot. No way. She's lost me and my vote.
I wish Howard Dean would run again. At least he's not afraid to tell the truth and say it out loud.

I'm sick and tired of Lieberman, who might as well just register Republican and be done with it.
And now Biden thinks he'll take a crack at it again (can anyone even spell PLAGIARISM these days?). Probably no chance in hell after that ridiculous play during the Alito hearings. Nevertheless, he's on the fence so often he has splinters up his ass. And the list goes on.

Who's gonna step up to the plate and take a full swing? I'm mean, they're lobbing the ball right over the middle of the plate and we're either watching it float by or swinging at the pitches in the dirt.

Please be to the powers of the universe: everybody needs to read this column!!!!!
Bravo, Molly!

26. Molly makes me proud to be a Texan

How is it that the Dems are playing it safe and putting a finger
in the wind when there is a hurricane of public opinion saying "Lead!"?

Like I said back in 2000, if you can't beat this spoiled frat boy and
his team of thugs you deserve to lose (stolen elections not contested
to the fullest is also losing.)
