UAW
Ronald Reagan - starting with the Air Traffic Controllers making it illegal to wildcat and strike. He also made it legal for the employer to hire scabs to replace the striking employee. In the past it was illegal for scabs to cross the picket line not to mention dangerous.

The UAW? Their hands are tied - legally. Thanks to the right wing who is DESTROYING this country. They are ripping the heart out of the United States. If the UAW strikes they lose their job to someone else. If they don't strike they wimps. I wouldn't like to see what anyone else would do in the same situation.

I PLEDGE that If I do anything before I die it will to help make the unions stronger because they have made life better for all of us. Your Father or Grand Father was probably a union man and he fought -
literally fought for his job, his wage, his medical coverage and a five day work week. The next time you see a Union man - say thank you.

I PRAY that these people will find new jobs that pay the same as what the have today.

I pray that the Democrats get our country back and the Unions gain strength again because my kids and your kids will be looking for jobs in a few years and what we tell them when they can't find one, or the only job available to them is at Walmart, paying minimum wage - not enough to buy the junk they sell.

Joe Serra
Democratic Candidate for the Illinois General assembly

1. I agree with you wholeheartedly. These criminals in power today have
sold the country to the highest bidder and sold out the working people. I honored my father who fought for unions during the 30's in San Francisco by proudly fighting for the rights of working members for over 30 years. I have to admit I could never comprehend the trend of my coworkers to brand the unions as irrelevant. I guess there are many theories on unions decline and everyone seems to have one. I see an orchestrated plan by corporations over the last 60 years to destroy unions. They have used everything from media manipulation to culture wars to intimidation. I have fought within my own union to become more relevant to current issues and have lost many battles and have gained much frustration but I have never lost faith in the need of unions to protect working people. In the end, all we can do is fight for what we believe in because we know it's right. Here's one of my favorite quotes by Paulo Coehlo : “But there is suffering in life, and there are defeats. No one can avoid them. But it's better to lose some of the battles in the struggles for your dreams than to be defeated without ever knowing what you're fighting for.”
