RPT-UPDATE 2-Iran central bank says not preparing for sanctions
TEHRAN, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Iran's central bank has not implemented any measures in preparation for U.N. action over its atomic program because it does not believe sanctions will be imposed, the bank said Monday.

"We do have a contingency plan. We are prepared for any eventuality but at the moment we do not feel sanctions are going to take place," Deputy Governor Mohammad Jafar Mojarrad told Reuters in an interview.

"We are not repatriating our foreign exchange assets ... and there has been no movement of any assets from, for example, any European banks to any Asian banks," he added.

He said talk of such transfers had resulted from misquotes in the Iranian media and also denied suggestions from gold traders that Iran's central bank was buying up the precious metal.

1. Sounds like China and Russia have
told them there will be no sanctions at this point. But that is just my reading of this issue.

3. I am still at a loss as to what authority the UN has with regards to Iran.
If they are a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Pact that was signed by over 100 other nations, they are expressly granted the rights to develop a PEACEFUL nuclear energy program - just like every other signatory.

I find it equally as stange that Israel, which REFUSED to sign this same pact, now has an estimated 200 to 500 (depending on the report) nuclear weapons...

No one seems to be bugging them about it...
