Be VERY careful when writing LTTE's (LOL)
First off sorry about these huge links-this *is* the Richmond Times-Dispatch the 20th Century is still new to them

Background-Brad Marrs was an up-an-coming hotshot in the Virginia Republican party. All the big hitters loved him. He was being groomed for state leadership perhaps even a position in DC. Then he went and lost in the election in Nov.2005 by 235 votes...and THEN he wrote this Letter to the Editor actually whining about the Times-Dispatch's editorial board (extremely far right).

Homosexual Agenda: Virginia Prefers Traditional Values

This sudden reversal from your supposed conservatism begs for some articulation of your new beliefs. So far, unfortunately, you have done nothing but call names, threaten, and bully.

Obviously your slams against me, too numerous to count, were a significant factor in my recent electoral defeat. But while your newfound pro-homosexual attack mentality may play well in a legislative district here or there, you will find that the state at large still prefers traditional family values. Next fall's marriageamendment referendum results will prove that point. Brad Marrs. richmond.

Okay now he is getting lambasted (in print). This is too damned funny.

Letters, Cont'd:
Readers Respond to Marrs' Missive

Editor, Times-Dispatch: Reading Brad Marrs' letter was like witnessing a train wreck. No matter how revolting the sight, I could not tear my eyes away.

Editor, Times-Dispatch: I am always amazed at the thoughts of former Delegate Brad Marrs. I have encountered his comments, both personally and publicly, and seem to find equal amounts of disdain for the homosexual community regardless of who his audience seems to be.

Editor, Times-Dispatch: Brad Marrs' campaign signs in the most recent election proclaimed: "Brad Marrs. Our Delegate." His condescending letter to the editor illustrates why he is no longer anyone's Delegate.

Kilgore camp says Marrs' letter 'out of bounds'

BY JEFF E. SCHAPIRO
TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER Jul 30, 2005

His party's nominee for governor is branding as "out of bounds" a fundraising letter by Del. Bradley P. Marrs, R-Chesterfield, emphasizing that one of his opponent's biggest donors is gay.

8. This editor is my kind of Republican, the same kind my grandfather
was, not the wingnuts of today

As a lifelong Goldwater-style conservative, I know that conservatism is a political philosophy with personal liberty as its primary tenet, not a religion based on an obsession with homosexuality. Marrs would do well to rediscover the writings and beliefs of the Founding Fathers and the principle of limited government instead of spending his time hectoring this paper for its support of tolerance in the public square.

In light of the fact that Marrs spent much of his political career fighting against equal rights for gay and lesbian Virginians, it is truly ironic that he would accuse this paper of threatening and bullying him simply because it disagrees with his repressive social views.

Marrs argues that most Virginians still prefer "traditional" marriage, which is not surprising since most of them are heterosexuals! But it is also true that a very large majority of voters in Virginia believes in expanding rights for gay and lesbian couples, not restricting them. In a recent survey by a Republican pollster, 59 percent said they support civil unions while still opposing same-sex marriage. So it is Marrs and his right-wing cronies who are grossly out of step with Virginia voters.
