Democrats ride momentum into mid-term election -- Yahoo
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrats are riding a wave of momentum into November's high-stakes battle for the U.S. Congress, with high hopes for significant gains that could threaten Republican control of the House and Senate.

Republicans enter the campaign after the toughest stretch of President George W. Bush's presidency, fueled by an unpopular war in Iraq, economic uncertainty, political scandals and Bush's low approval ratings...

2. They can bring the momentum to a screeching halt if they don't filibuster.
Come on, clowns! Get a clue! The final showdown between The Constitution and the Fascists has arrived. Are you for us or against us?

12. And we may get a new party...
...if spinelessness again rules the day. The patience of anyone to the left of Hillary for appeasing Bushism has run very, very thin.

Dean should stop settling for his role as bagman for the DLC and take the progressive wing with him into a new third party.

6. From *'s press conference this morning
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/01/20060126.html

"So the Palestinians had an election yesterday, and the results of which remind me about the power of democracy. You see, when you give people the vote, you give people a chance to express themselves at the polls -- and if they're unhappy with the status quo, they'll let you know. That's the great thing about democracy, it provides a look into society.

And yesterday the turnout was significant, as I understand it. And there was a peaceful process as people went to the polls, and that's positive. But what was also positive is, is that it's a wake-up call to the leadership. Obviously, people were not happy with the status quo. The people are demanding honest government. The people want services. They want to be able to raise their children in an environment in which they can get a decent education and they can find health care."

.unless the ballot boxes are rigged...

8. At first glance I read that as "after the toughest stench ..."
My eyes were playing tricks on me, but it has been quite a stench, hasn't it?

Thanks for sharing. Good news is always welcome.

11. Extremely disappointing but not surprising . . .
to see nary a mention of voting equipment fraud and the potentially fruitless nature of most of this stuff if it will all be cranked through rigged machinery. As a country it's was past time we worked up the courage to oversee the entire (metaphorical) sausage-making process.
