The Democratic response Rove should have heard

Dick Feagler
Plain Dealer Columnist

...

Any Democrat worth his jockstrap or her running bra would have roared back at Rove. And said something like this:........

I was a Reagan Democrat. I always knew what Ronald Reagan stood for. And I liked most of it. Didn't like Ollie North or the guns-for-hostages business. But, by God, the wall fell.

I swung back to the left after Bush got in. But when I returned to the Democratic Party of my youth, there was nobody home.

The Democrats had become wimps. Worse than that, they had become boring wimps...

1. No message? (My letter to Feagler):
I read your recent editorial taking on Karl Rove in the Plain Dealer, and agree with much of what you said. However, I think you are flat wrong in saying that the Democrats have no message, no plans. Did you hear Al Gore's speech on January 16? How about Feingold's withdrawal plan? And John Murtha's comments? If you are like most Americans, you didn't actually hear any of these statesmen deliver their thoughts in their entirety. You either heard a few snippets, embedded among the jeers and disparagement of some "objective news analyst" like Wolf Blitzer, Sean Hannity or Chris Matthews, or you heard nothing. The Democrats have a message, alright. But the corporate media aren't allowing them to deliver it.
