Dennis Miller's "All In"
My review

January 30, 2006

Don't bother.

Signed
ME

I watched it the other night. I knew he was going to spout some stupid pseudo-manly Republican HE-MAN type stuff, and he did, but I expected something funny....something new...some interesting look at some issue but alas no. I will give him this his Air and Space museum joke WAS funny if ill delivered (which he admitted to) but other than that the only really funny part was about Sen.Byrd but of course he couldn't resist mentioning the KKK. He actually told a joke about Harry Reid. About how boring Harry Reid is. Yes it was really that exciting.

4. HBO special
from Vegas.

He doesn't give a rats ass about Alaska....we all go to Vegas!!!

Insert the expected manly-ish joke about using as much damned gas as he damned well wants to

20. Dennis Miller isn't funny -- he is an ascerbic half-wit in Republican
clothing. We watched about ten minutes of the special last night and then turned it off.

Don't bother.

2. SAVE US the PAIN!
Can you transcribe the Air and Space museum joke? Or is it even worth it?

6. "Hey hey see we don't have to boo"
There wasn't one single crowd shot. Some overheads where people were clapping but I couldn't tell if they were at the same time as the routine we were watching. Probably were but still there wasn't one single shot of people laughing and you couldn't hear anyone booing either. 10 seconds later Miller says "Thank you" and walks off. Special over.

7. Said that he'd never oppose the war in Iraq as long as we had troops there
The thing I don't like about Miller's "rebirth" is when he tries to back peddle and say he's a "libertarian" (which ever "kind" of libertarian he means, there are so many kinds).

Dennis: I'm really sorry about 9/11. They were really bad guys. We should try to prevent that kind of thing happening again. That doesn't, however, give ANY President a blank check, and I don't agree that stupider is better when it comes to dealing with "these people".

8. I didn't.
I clicked through a repeat while bored and lasted about 30 seconds. He ain't funny. He used to be, a long time ago, sort of cool-hip-amusing, now he is just a paunchy middle aged bore.

I mean, you expected Dennis Miller to be funny?

I discovered that 15+ years ago, before he sucked at the Repuke $$$ teats . . .

With his career waning and his coke addled looks growing he has taken his one trick pony joke style. He signed on to the Neocon bandwagon and has been trying to exploit the part of culture that prefers to laugh at humor of the "Git 'er Done" assclown. He has failed in my eyes...

Underpants, if you really miss his comedic stylings then make your own! Pretty simple really, just take the following formula and add your own just like Mad Libs!

"(Condescending Statement), but (Current/Past Even Figure) (Verb Gerund Form) is like (random historical anecdote) (verb in gerund form) (random pop-culture anecdote) (preposition) (something silly/vulgar) (preposition) (Another pop-culture anecdote.)" Feel free to insert your own!

E.G.: "I'm not one to toot his own horn, but Henry Kissinger speaking is like Napoleon dancing dadaesque in Japanese Bukake film on crack cocaine.

E.G. 2: "I'm not an expert on the subject matter, but George W. Bush talking about Brokeback Mountain is like Eva Braun snorting cocaine off of John Wayne's Elbow with Johnny Rotten"

Damn...I'm a comedy genius just like Dennis...

14. Yeah but the air and space joke was RIGHT THERE
Oh he could have cemented this comedic special into the cable era stratosphere if only he had nailed that one like 10 minutes into the 75 minute exhibit. Damn!

13. Dennis Miller? He was that sarcastic guy that used to be funny in the 90s.
Once he decided he couldn't hook the youth demographic anymore, he pretty much lost his edge.

16. I saw it too. Laugh at one joke. Don't even remember it. He is
terrible. Audience shots didn't have everyone clapping. Didn't seem like much laughter either. Saw Ellen deGeneres right after it and lot of laughter and lots of shots of all the audience laughing and clapping. Interesting how he talked about the terrible leaders in congress and then mentioned only Democrats. Plus Al Sharpton and Howard Dean. Didn't know they were in congress!

17. Pro-fascist rw government humor is inherently unfunny,
And delivery by a person who has all the outward appearance of a homeless man doesn't help.

18. Why Republicans are not funny
Orwell said, "Every joke is a tiny revolution."

And so, if you are all about protecting the status quo, you can never pull off the reversal that is required in a joke -- to write a funny joke you must be willing to do a power shift, and let the little guy win, or laugh at yourself (which is really giving up power to get power ).

They just can't do it.
