Some have asked on this site: "What do the NEocons want." Here is a interesting summary by Rep Ron Paul of Texas (a declared libertarian) of the NeoCons beliefs and objectives. I don't agree with everything in this list. Some of it is a bit simplistic. But it has some good points.
http://www.house.gov/paul/tst/tst2003/tst071403.htm ( all emphasis my own -JW)
Modern neoconservatives are not necessarily monolithic in their views, but they generally can be described as follows:
-They agree with Trotsky’s idea of a permanent revolution; (I don't agree with this. I think what they are in favor of is undermining Government effectiveness to cause loss of faith in the Government to create a power vacuum which they then can exploit. Then, when they are in power they show zero tolerance for open debate or discussion of public policy or of the effectiveness of the Government - JW)
-They identify strongly with the writings of Leo Strauss;
-They express no opposition to the welfare state, and will expand it to win votes and power;
-They believe in a powerful federal government;
-They believe the ends justify the means in politics- that hardball politics is a moral necessity;
-They believe lying is necessary for the state to survive; ((They believe lying is perfectly okay to get and maintain power.-JW)
-They believe certain facts should be known only by the political elite, and withheld from the general public;
-They believe in preemptive war and the naked use of military force to achieve any desired ends;
-They openly endorse the idea of an American empire, and hence unapologetically call for imperialism;
-They are very willing to use force to impose American ideals (Which shows how much they understand the American ideal of liberty from totalitarian Government. - JW);
-They scoff at the Founding Father’s belief in neutrality in foreign affairs;
-They believe 9/11 resulted from a lack of foreign entanglements, not from too many;
-They are willing to redraw the map of the Middle East by force, while unconditionally supporting
Israel and the Likud Party;
-They view civil liberties with suspicion, as unnecessary restrictions on the federal government;
-They despise libertarians, and dismiss any arguments based on constitutional grounds.
Those who love liberty, oppose unjustified war, and resent big-brother government must identify the philosophy that is influencing policy today. If the neoconservatives are wrong- and I believe they are- we must demonstrate this to the American people, and offer an alternative philosophy that is both morally superior and produces better results in terms of liberty and prosperity. It is time for true conservatives to retake the conservative movement.
This is a pretty good summary. They are provided by Rep Ron Paul. As I said I don't think NEo-Cons have beliefs, in the true sense of the word. They only have tactics. I don't think they have really thought anything through, they are just reacting emotionally to their own psychological problems and fears. Deep inside, they are frightened people, feeling the world is a fearful place where they will be abused. OF course they cannot admit this (most of all to themselves) and would be furious at such a suggestion.
I think the long term 'solution' to conservatism is to help people raising their children so they won't raise fearful people who become Conservatives. So we can just rationally work together to make this a better, more rational, more sensible society.
