Pentagon spells out strategy for global military aggression
Pentagon spells out strategy for global military aggression

By Bill Van Auken
9 February 2006

Only days before the Bush administration submitted its fiscal 2007 budget, which calls for a major increase in military spending, the Pentagon sent Congress a long-term strategy document that makes clear Washington’s intentions to use the additional billions to wage an aggressive campaign of global militarism.

<snip>

This massive spending proposal is driven ultimately by a policy, supported by the decisive sections of the American ruling elite and both major parties, of utilizing US military superiority as a means of countering the relative decline of American capitalism on the world market. The buildup of the US armed forces is aimed not at countering some ubiquitous terrorist menace, but at defending American economic and political hegemony against challenges from both popular movements and powerful economic rivals.

This strategy is spelled out in the QDR document released in conjunction with the budget request. That the document uses the term “long war,” a phrase that is increasingly replacing the “global war on terrorism” in Washington official-speak, has ominous implications. The term is aimed at accustoming US military personnel and the American public at large to a state of permanent warfare that will continue regardless of the outcome of the current interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As the document states: “Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our Nation and its interests around the globe for years to come.”

In another significant terminological shift, the Pentagon document defines the main enemy not as terrorists, but rather as “violent extremists” or merely “extremists.” This choice of words is not accidental. The thrust of the strategic conceptions outlined by the Pentagon review is the organization of the US military to violently quell any and all opposition to US domination.

5. Endless wars abroad, endless paranoia at home
will keep the rightwing in power for generations to come, assuming the human race survives their folly.

6. Their meteoric rise to the top was not on the radar of most citizens.
Are they going to stay there and completely rule us with lies and theft or are they going to fall?

Watching the King tribute, I realized that there are more people in the U.S. beyond DUers and some mover shaker organiztionss like PFAW, etc. who are awake and cognizant of what is going on. Sometimes it seems that everyone knows what is going on, including some of the lemmings, certainly some in the military, and some of our employees in government - so why is everything stagnated? Except the atomic bomb that is being readied for Iran?

Way too many people purposely put their headphones on and drown it all out with music. Some purposely enroll their kids up for another class so that they can have their purposeful distraction. Way too many think that it's all politics and all politicians are the same so why waste time. They may recognize the name Abramoff or Norquist, but have no idea that they are watching propagandists if they catch CNN at the airport or hear their local FOX station repeat something said by Hume or an ordinary lemming who will say that it's OK with they if they are spied on if we catch some terrorists.

But, those leaning to civic mindedness are really waking up.

But PeeNACers and the cabal are moving faster than we wake up. We read that Bolton is preparing to say to the UN before we drop the bomb, but we're pillars. We hear about sneaking the privatization (the grandest money theft against us since 1929 and 1963) into a budget bill, but we are all pillars. We read how we simply went in and took Haiti, but we are pillars. We read about 5300 missing people and the thousands of aggressons against the people of New Orleans, but we are pillars. In general. They must laugh at us for the way they can pull of their stings and schemes against us.

We all think the other person is going to have more success with their congressperson who is blinded to those who manipulate, bribe, blackmail, and hold them hostage by the WH. By their vote they are equal to the power of the power-facilitators such as Roberts or Blunt or Warner or Hatch who are dictated to by the WH. Representation? We ere pillars.

We pillars who are called pillars of our nation in one breath, but who are knocked over by a group of people who have an agenda that is descending on us like a black cloak or a truckload of dirt, are just standing waiting because of our disbelief that it is happening.
