Their Own Version of a Big Bang
Their Own Version of a Big Bang

Those who believe in creationism -- children and adults -- are being
taught to challenge evolution's tenets in an in-your-face way.

By Stephanie Simon, Times Staff Writer

WAYNE, N.J. — Evangelist Ken Ham smiled at the 2,300 elementary students packed into pews, their faces rapt. With dinosaur puppets and silly cartoons, he was training them to reject much of geology, paleontology and evolutionary biology as a sinister tangle of lies.

"Boys and girls," Ham said. If a teacher so much as mentions evolution, or the Big Bang, or an era when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, "you put your hand up and you say, 'Excuse me, were you there?' Can you remember that?"

The children roared their assent.

"Sometimes people will answer, 'No, but you weren't there either,' " Ham told them. "Then you say, 'No, I wasn't, but I know someone who was, and I have his book about the history of the world.' " He waved his Bible in the air.

1. God made Adam and Eve.

Excuse me, were you there? No? Well, we base science on fact. And religion on faith. That's the difference.

8. And "faith" is the belief in something without evidence.
Sometimes, its belief in something in spite of evidence to the contrary.

Science is a faithless belief system. To be accepted, an idea must have proof. That's the way science works. Its DESIGNED that way.

Trying to prove your faith is a faithless act - and that's a sin.

10. God made Adam and Eve?
Well, no...actually god made Adam and Lilith. They were still married (no divorce courts) when Eve came along.

3. Simple-minded idiocy
Much easier to tell the children a myth than (God forbid) teach them how careful scientific research can reveal information about our past. Ken Ham is the epitome of the kind of person I detest.

4. so let me get this straight...god made earth in 6 days and took
off on sunday, made adam from 100 lbs of clay, made eve from adam's rib, they lived in the garden of eden until one day a snake seduced eve into eating the apple from the tree of knowledge (golden delicious) and eve then used her charms to get adam to eat the apple too..afterwards god appeared and said,"how stupid you two are, didn't I say do not eat that apple" now get out of here you two idiots and go earn a living in the harsh weather. But since adam and eve had all the amenities in the garden of eden where did they learn to hunt and kill for food? How did they learn to sew clothing? Just doesn't make sense to me...sorry.
Part 2..adam got eve pregnant and their first born was cain,we know that cain later will kill his brother able. so we are descendants of parents that murder. wow..
give me the apes..

5. So many contradictions...
... willfully ignored. Further down the article, when a student asks why there are so many different dogs, Ham answers that god made the blueprint for a dog 6000 years ago, and evolution took over. Why is that evolution over 6000 years is possible (and the Bible says nothing about evolution as a concept, so where did it come from?), but evolution over several billion years is impossible?

What distinguished the Dark Ages was an appeal to ignorance and superstition by religious forces. We think that, post-Enlightenment, such appeals can't happen again. This yokel, Ken Ham, is proof that they can.

7. If we use this guy's logic ...
Edited on Sat Feb-11-06 06:34 PM by BattyDem
couldn't we say that God made the blueprint for the apes a few million years ago and then evolution took over? :eyes:

This guy relies only on faith for the creation of man, then relies on science for the rest of it. He's telling the child to trust the findings of science, but not when those findings contradict his creation beliefs. :wtf:

9. The problem with Adam and Eve is that
they copulated and made only repubicans. Dumb ones. So god brought in the apes. Smarter and wiser. Called them democrats. See it is simple.
