The Real Pat Roberts Returns

This morning, the New York Times reported that Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS), the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, was breaking ranks with the White House and demanding that Bush’s domestic surveillance program be overseen by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court:

The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee said Friday that he wanted the Bush administration’s domestic eavesdropping program brought under the authority of a special intelligence court, a move President Bush has argued is not necessary.

He stuck by his guns for less than 24-hours. From the AP:

Duhnke said Roberts is looking at changes within the federal law but not necessarily involving the approval of the court.........

2. It was never anything but a smoke screen
Now that he's blocked yet another attempt at executive oversight, his goal is to get retroactive legislation passed to give the evil cartel a legal right to do whatever it is they have been illegally doing. He has no other objective in this. Roberts has been very consistent in being the administration's chief lapdog in the Senate.

4. I wonder what Karl Rove knows about Pat Roberts.
Does the B*sh White House operate by the J. Edgar Hoover rules of the game? I'll bet they have files on every single legislator/DC operative and they would not hesitate to bring a little influence to bear upon anyone who fails to conform. Of course, just like the details of Hoover's personal life, their own "proclivities" would probably shock fundie America.
