Nice job, NBC
Oddly, I had exactly the same thought while watching Costas and various other interviewers rake this kid over the coals. I must have a psychic connection to Mr. Harris.

Nice job, NBC.

20-year-old kid gets a little overexcited for maybe two seconds, is instantly punished by life itself, and you catch her in a small lie while she's trying to explain it to herself a few minutes later, then rake her over the coals for another half-hour.

And yet somehow, on your Sunday morning talk shows, you never seem to have the ability, ever, to confront anyone in the White House or the Congressional leadership on their stream of obvious, ongoing, shameful lies on about thirty different subjects.

Gosh. If only the media could have the same balls around the powerful as they do around a humiliated and disappointed 20-year-old girl.

Yeesh.

1. Yeah, poor Jacobellis made one mistake in judgment and
they crucify her. Good thing she doesn't have family that can off GE execs on small planes. (Or does she? :tinfoilhat: )

2. It really is ridiculous isn't it? All this bashing over a stupid gold
medal...isn't she the one that has to live w/ messing up on her snowboard, not NBC, I guess NBC is upset about the USA medal count and way their ratings are in the toilet. Geez, American Idol beats them out! LMAO

4. What was doubly interesting...
(and Harris also mentioned it, too) was that the commentators were absolutely not fooled. It was obvious she was hot-dogging, and she was lying about it. And they all said so. It was kind of humorous, in it's own way, hearing the commentators say things like: "Oh yeah, she was hot-dogging."

And yet, you never, ever, ever see that kind of reaction from political pundits any more. "Oh yeah, Cheney was lying." They know they're lying, and we know they know. But they never, ever let any cracks show in the facade. Except maybe recently. A little.

5. sure, she lied about it...
but, she's a 20-year-old who screwed up.

I'd guess most 20-year-olds aren't above lying to make themselves look...less stupid.

I know I wasn't...and I was never much into lying. I was in my mid-20s by the time I figured out how to take responsibility for doing stupid stuff.

And as for the commentators calling her and not *co...they're cowards and can take on a 20-year-old girl. But a corrupt administration...:scared:

:puke:

8. I thought they were too hard on her too. Besides, who HASN'T
screwed up?

I totally identified with her. So much of life is like that - nothing really comes out perfectly for most of us. We just get up and keep trying.

What's wrong with that?

9. The fate of the planet does NOT ride on Lindsey's shoulders.
Boogers to NBC, which deserves serious slapping for pretending that Lindsey Jacobellis and her snowboarding antics are, like, CRUCIAL, ya know? Like maybe WORLD PEACE, or maybe the true fate of Natalie Holloway (sarcasm) depends on whether she showboats or not!!

I think the NY Times said it best when it chided other Olympic atheletes for taking themselves far too seriously, while Jacobellis was intent on having FUN!

" Meanwhile, Ms. Jacobellis had an amazing race, built a huge lead, got exuberant and went splat. What did she think these were — Games?"

10. Bottom line- watching anything that passes for "news" in America
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 10:32 PM by depakid
is just like allowing yourself to be a battered spouse.

Every time I make the mistake of turning one of those shows on, I feel like I've let an abuser into my house. And I won't do that anymore.

I wouldn't even ride on the same train or eat in the same restaurant with someone I recognized as part of that crowd.

Hell, I wouldn't even help them pull their car out of a ditch- though I might get my video camera out and film them grovelling around in the snow and mud.
