Nearly four years ago, we arrived at a conclusion that seemed self-evident: David Petersen shouldn't be Arizona's treasurer.
Voters disagreed. So be it. We're willing to give them a mulligan.
...snip...
Four years ago, Petersen told The Republic Editorial Board that his readily apparent lack of technical and financial skills would not hamper his job performance because he could always rely on the highly regarded Treasury Department staff.
Well, four years later, we are seeing reports that Petersen has managed to run off virtually the entire staff. That includes his now-former executive assistant, whose four-page resignation letter should have been treated with flame retardant.
...snip...
There were hints about Petersen's incompetence. Petersen came heartily endorsed by Kevin Ross, who would later resign as Maricopa County assessor under the taint of an indictment. And an active member of Petersen's campaign was Jeff Groscost who, as speaker of the House, gave Arizona the $140 million alt-fuels scandal in 2000.
