Texas hearts Dubai
http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/local/13941256.htm

You know. They're just like us, so we should "trade" with them. They don't wear burkas! They live in a dry climate! They have oil! They like global free trade. For crap's sake, what is it with knee-jerk Bush-spin in the local op-ed world?

1. The headline is freaking PSYCHOTIC
We'll take Dubai over New York....oh, really?????? Yeah, a country run by seven rich bastards who assumed power by heredity and maintain it with the barrel of a gun, with ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY over the lives of their citizens, who own EVERYTHING in the damn country, is better than a city that elects their representatives and offers freedom and justice for all?

The writer of that piece is dumber than dumb-ya!!! He should move there and take citizenship, if it's so fancy-shmancy to him!

3. And what makes them so different than us?.....
A country run by a handfull of families/corporations?
Heredity?
The barrel of a gun?
Uhh... isn't that where we are living right now?

I am a Texan.

I trust the UAE one hell of a lot more than I trust the soul-less ones on the floor of the Exchange
or our current crop of drum-beaters in DC.

The issue is the administration's message versus the action.

Oiligarchy vs. Oiligarchy. We are pawns in their game.

Who is gonna be the last guy at the pump?

4. You trust them MORE? I'd say they are cut from the same cloth
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 01:12 AM by MADem

One difference between them and the GOP pigs currently in charge over here is that these Dubai ladies don't even get to vote, so they don't have to worry about having their vote stolen. And they don't have to worry about their leadership, because it's ALWAYS THE SAME GUY...and when he croaks, one of his relatives steps up to the plate.

I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. The guy who wrote that pandering piece of shit article is an idiot. And if he didn't see any serious hijab over there, he wasn't looking very hard...

And on edit--the writer's headline averred that he would take Dubai over NEW YORK...that was where I was directing my ire initially. I happen to like NY, with the exception of their irritating baseball team.

5. So I will ask again... What makes them so different from us?
Women are not treated equally?

Votes (anyone's) do not count?

Meet the New Boss, same as the Old Boss?

Just sayin', MADem.

I trust UAE to run our ports far more than I would trust Halliburton.

The guy who wrote the article may be an idiot, but I believe his argument(s) is/are salient.

We truly are thru the looking glass.

6. You trust the UAE more.
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 01:44 AM by chalky
The UAE whow supplied two of the hijackers.

The UAE who acknowledged the Taliban.

The UAE that laundered Al Qaeda funds.

You trust them. Not "as little" as Halliburton, but more.

Okay, then. Through the looking glass it is.

BTW, I'm a Texan, too. And I'd just as soon have someone in charge who'd at the very least MIGHT be a little more prone to vigilance out of the completely selfish desire not to have his own ass or property endangered.

7. WE THE PEOPLE--that is the difference
It's ours, not theirs, it's in WRITING, thanks to our Founders, and we just have to TAKE IT BACK.

They don't have that option available to them.

There are three things we can do--lead, follow, or just give it the hell up and get out of the way.

I'm not done fighting.

9. Bushcronies are in on the deal.
It won't just be the UAE running the ports, it will be UAE + Bushcronies.

Now do you trust them?

2. Love the old "pimping of the race card" there...
"'I hate to see us encourage the ethnic and racial profiling of an entire region and its people,' said Williams, who is African-American. 'This is profiling of Arabs. I hate to see us do that.'"

'Cause you know, Williams race is so relevant to this issue.
