Scheer : How Many Body Bags?
<snip>

On Sunday, 19 more young Americans died in Iraq serving the vanity of an American president who woefully betrayed them and who has no idea where his policies are taking the country.

<snip>

And U.S. intentions in Iraq are far from clear. Though there may be an echo of "white man's burden" that seeks to export "civilization," even that highly questionable goal is clouded and undermined by the fact that Washington inevitably will put a higher priority on having a new Iraq serve the U.S.' superpower needs — oil, commerce, military power — rather than meet the needs of regular Iraqis.

2. The only way out
...was for Congress to cut off funding for everything but aid and return of the troops. Depending on how fast BFEE contractors tear through the money they appear to funded until 2005. Some neocons expect them to come back for another 40 billion on some pretext or another after the United States of McNesia forgets about the 89 billion. That should take two weeks or so.

3. And they voted for him.
That's the saddest cut of all. I remember how elated they were in 2000 when they voted for Bush. I often think about those military men who mailed their absentee ballots after the deadline. They cheated to help elect this president. Where are they now?

5. Like to read it but could not get in.
I must have put my name down once but can not get in now and I did not write it down. I do not understand that, and it took me months to get into the NYTimes and we had a number of e-mails on it. Then once I re did it and had no trouble after that.
