Rove likely to be indicted: Testifies in leak case

By James Vicini and Andy Sullivan

04/26/06 _-- WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush's top political adviser, Karl Rove, testified on Wednesday before a federal grand jury investigating the leak of a covert CIA operative's identity, his lawyer said.

Rove testified voluntarily about an undisclosed matter raised since his last appearance before the grand jury in October and his status has not changed, attorney Robert Luskin said.

Another source close to Rove said he has not been notified that he is likely to be indicted soon.

"At the request of the special counsel, Mr. Rove will not discuss the substance of his testimony," Luskin said.

His appearance marked the fifth time that Rove, the deputy White House chief of staff, testified before a grand jury as part of the investigation. He left the courthouse without speaking to reporters.

Another source, a lawyer close to the investigation, said Fitzgerald has not made a decision on whether or not to bring charges against Rove.

33. VERY interesting article
I used to be a big prairie dog fan when I lived in Colorado. There were colonies of them here and there, and I spent quite a bit of time just watching their kind of ongoing social life--besides, they're awfully cute little critters. :loveya:

22. Somebody here posted that a DOJ manual advises it.
I'm not clear why. I would think you'd want the first warning to be the knock at the door.

I can't find anything in the article that supports the headline. Not that I don't think he is going to be indicted, but am I reading something wrong?

19. In the pic I just saw of him yesterday, no smirk it was a weak smile
at best, and he looked thinner and pale.
Not like himself at all....

Whether he gets off or not, big damage has been done.

9. WHOA...AS I UNDERSTAND MATT COOPER SAID WITNESSES
could discuss their testimony after testifying...

now this is saying the :

"At the request of the special counsel, Mr. Rove will not discuss the substance of his testimony," Luskin said.

now why would be???

did he cop a plea today?? to turn on someone else??

i specifically remember seeing Cooper in an interview saying once done with the grand jury he could say anything he wanted to what he testified...

something smells funny with the above statement!!

17. Rove is in charge of getting Republicans elected in November.
Will the indictment make that a problem?
I think he best represents what the Republican Party is all about. Well, next to Tom "the Hammer" Delay

24. THis partly explains the "shift" in jobs
They were letting Rove down in stages expecting an indictment to drive him to the sidelines. The political job is not so officially "governmental" and until on trial or convicted I suppose he could do his electioneering thing. People who assumed he was going to make stump speeches neglect the main purpose of Rove, mainly the planning of dirt and fraud. What he will have to concentrate on MUST become the furtive stuff and perhaps the things that are too secret for even the beneficiaries to know.

That is why an indictment should never allow him to slink off undisturbed and neglected into the shadows. he should be pursued and watched relentlessly and if he ever should touch the machinery or personnel of election fraud and slime propaganda he must be caught in the act and exposed ruthlessly. If he passes off his grand design to some disciple or crony the favor of scrutiny must be extended.

This is the reality, not the sideshow of the MSM playing dirges and litanies for some classical soap opera when all the action is still behind the curtain. Rove will never see a day in jail quite possibly but he should never see a day when he is secretly free to commit treasonous crimes against his country.
