But just as a warning, brace yourself for an onslaught of Deanophobes who go positively ballistic over anything good Howard Dean does, or over any article praising him.
Glad to have you here on DU.

5. This is what the anti-Dean people refuse to accept |
|
"If the Democrats are to remain competitive in the South, they can't afford to write off the Bubbas. Just as the GOP cannot afford to write off black voters."
All of Dean's detractors that criticized him on this issue demanded that he do exactly that - write off an an entire voting block as inherently evil and beyond redemption. To me this makes THEM look like evil, narrowminded bigots.

When you post again...it's better to post the author and title of the opinion piece. Thanks, rfu, moderator
a snip-
Dean a victim of 'correctness' At this time a century ago, Americans were pondering deeply upon the need for the nation to bind up the wounds of the Civil War. Troops from North and South had fought and beaten the Spanish in Cuba; reunions of old soldiers from the Civil War stressed national unity. The friendship of two jurists on the Supreme Court -- Edward Douglass White of Louisiana, a former Confederate soldier, and Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. of Massachusetts, thrice wounded on the Union side -- was considered a national symbol of reconciliation.
Who would have thought, after all that emotional binding of wounds, that a century later the Confederacy would still be a live political issue?

10. Wait a minute -- that's not a rule in Editorials |
|
And AFAIC, there's a good reason for that. Sometimes the headlines are for shit, and you know it. It's true in LBN, it' true for Editorials.

"We believe Dean was unfairly pilloried for what is a very sound political instinct. Maybe there's less of a Bubba vote than there used to be, but many remain. If the Democrats are to remain competitive in the South, they can't afford to write off the Bubbas. Just as the GOP cannot afford to write off black voters.
And to be the target of Sharpton's jabs may be unpleasant, but it's better than agreeing with a notorious liar -- as so many of Sharpton's fellow candidates"
Can't say how happy I am to read this from Louisianna as it's been my take on it all along! :kick:
