"The Only Hookers Fox WON'T Cover"
http://news.yahoo.com/s/thenation/20060508/cm_thenation/1582493

The Nation -- As far as scandals are concerned, the widening investigation into former Rep. Duke Cunningham has got it all. The drumroll, in no specific order:

Prostitutes. Poker. The Watergate Hotel. Members of Congress. Shady limousine companies.
CIA officials with names like Dusty Foggo and Nine Fingers.

What more could reporters want in a story? I seem to recall that the last time there was a sex scandal in DC, back in the late 1990s, reporters paid rapt attention.

<snip>

Maureen Dowd did pen a column over the weekend entitled "Poker, Hookers and Spooks." And her paper, The New York Times, is coming around belatedly. But TV news still has a long way to go.

1. the Fakestream media has long since sold it's soul for a few extra
advertisers...
it's a sad day when hookers cannot cause a washington scandal..

i miss monica lewinsky, she was my kind of hooker... took clinton down an impeachment path without even having any substance... these hookers show a far to shady side of the government , more shady than a sex addicted president.... but a wide web of influence peddling and corruption which is just plain boring to the ignorant american audiences.....

2. Patience, my friend ...
Once this story gets going, even FAUX won't be able to resist covering it - their viewers will DEMAND it. Nothing wakes the sleeping masses like a story about SEX 'n POLITICS.

It's shameful that this little gem might be THE thing that takes BushCo et al down once and for all, in view of things like lying in the lead-up to Iraq, stolen elections, graft, greed, bribe-taking, etc.

But hey, I'm not all THAT fussy - I'll take their downfall any way I can get it.

4. A lone gay male prostitute ...
... doesn't have the impact of hookers-for-political-hire. I agree that Gannon should have been a HUGE story, but a lot of Bible-belt Americans would really rather not hear about such perverse goings-on.

I have no doubt that the people who watch O'Reilly and listen to Limbaugh are the same people who can't resist buying those ridiculous tabloids at the check-out counter in the supermarket. They just LOVE a good story that involves titillating details about good, down-home illicit heterosexual sex.

I'm old enough (unfortunately) to remember John Profumo, Christine Keeler, Mandy Rice-Davies et al. Normally staid Brits, who were reluctant to discuss sex with their own spouses, suddenly couldn't stop gabbing about who was screwing who.

Like they always say, SEX SELLS. And when you mix that sex with political intrigue, you've got a story that can't be stopped.

5. The friend of a friend of mine is a high-priced call girl

She spends a lot of her time in Washington. Services a lot of congressmen (And I will NEVER find out who) with very peculiar sexual tastes. Wonder if she's been at these parties. However, my pal plays it pretty close to the vest when it comes to this particular friend, so I haven't even asked. Given the current climate, it may even be dangerous for her to talk about where she's been.

6. re: hookers in Washington
I suspect there is a lot more of this stuff going on than we suspect. It's just usually kept hush-hush (as it should be) by the media. It's only when it starts to get weird that the details leak out to the unwashed masses.

8. I personally don't care what people do behind closed doors
as long as both are consenting adults. It's the hypocrisy that bothers me, and I suspect you feel the same.
