Hirsi Ali the outspoken dutch parlamentarian
leaves Holland for the USA. She is going to work for the American Enterprise Institute.

Hirsi Ali said, and the VVD confirms, she told them back then she had lied to the immigration service. Why then did the VVD present Hirsi Ali as a person who survived the turmoil in Somalia?

1. So naturally the xenophobic right is gonna come down on her hard, right?
I mean, if Maria Elena Gonzalez from Michoacan was found to have lied to La Migra, the Minutemen and such would be calling for the firing squad.

But with Hirsi Ali? No such luck:

http://www.slate.com/id/2141846/

At Hot Air, the conservative network launched by Michelle Malkin, Allahpundit writes, "Hirsi Ali is arguably the greatest champion of western values on the international scene right now; in refusing to tolerate Islamist intolerance, she's … doing a job Europeans won't do. Call it 'earned citizenship.' "

I suppose things would be different if she were coming here to work at, say, the Progressive Policy Institute instead of AEI (which is in the same building as PNAC, BTW). I can hear the OxyMoron now: "That woman is a known liar who should not even be allowed into this country to change planes at Kennedy Airport! Of course she'd be coming to work at a left-wing think tank with a bunch of her far-left liar buddies!" and so on and so on ad nauseam until he turned purple (or I hurled my radio into the street).

Hirsi Ali is major pain in the ass for us. Im glad she is leaving Holland. You know she started her political career as a leftist and ended up right wing.

3. Verdonk is starting proceedings to strip her of citizenship.

Immigrants' rights groups are in favor of it, as well, since most are Muslim and she's "created great damage" by "defaming Islam." And we all know the kind of Islam she's been defaming, so it's curious, and either specious or telling, to equate what she's been defaming with mainstream Islam. Some divisions are necessary and good; "divisive" is not always an insult.

On the other hand, many people are wondering why the furor now: This has been public knowledge since 2002.

Presumably if she were deported back to her homeland she'd be attacked by some practioner of That Which She Condemns, and either be killed or eligible for applying for asylum.

On edit: The last sentence was intended to be hypothetical, and edited to reflect that.

4. She is great, this won't silence her
Unfortunately, the neocons at AEI will not help her cause. But she is right to criticize Islam. Her message is more important than where she is physically located.
