Republicans and Democrats both use hot-button issues, such as war, abortion, immigration, marriage and the war on drugs to name but a few to demonstrate to their constituents the supposedly vast differences between their ideologies, and by extension, the vast differences between the people who belong to each party. In reality, these issues are a polarizing smoke screen used to divide and conquer, to distract the people away from issues that impact each and every one of us every day of our lives.
One side claims to be the party of high morals and family values, the other of equality and the environment — both with completely false sound bites designed to keep us at each other's throats over issues which are routinely blown out of proportion by both sides so we believe there are deep irreparable divisions between the people who subscribe to the dogma of each party.
It's called propaganda, people, and by blindly following corrupt leaders and buying into the "me" generation's give-it-to-me-now mentality, we have earned nothing but a bitter harvest of skyrocketing personal debt and world poverty, driving illegal immigration and perpetuating the problems we all complain about and suffer for.
While we struggle over knee-jerk divisive issues trumpeted by both Democrats and Republicans, they are robbing us blind while lining their own deep pockets and expanding their family empires at our expense. Our government is supposed to be by and of the people, for the people. In reality, it is by and of the rich, for the rich. Their kids don't die in wars; their kids go to the best universities and get the best jobs. Our children struggle simply to survive in their own home towns.
