Traumatized baby quieted by quake

Four-month-old Akmalia Jesa Fahrevi was once a cheerful baby whose laughter brought joy to those who listened to her. But Saturday's earthquake changed all that.

The only child of Singgir Kartana and Uswatun Khasanah is in good physical health but the experience of being buried for almost two hours under her collapsed house in Samen hamlet, Bantul regency, has turned her into a quiet one. <snip>

Akmalia, she said, had been in a state of shock since she was rescued from the debris of the family home in the hours after Saturday's devastating quake.

That morning when the temblor struck, Uswatun remembers she had just finished preparing water to bathe her baby, who was playing with her father on their bed. <snip>
