Gingrich Says It's World War III
Article by David Postman, Seattle Times Chief Political Reporter 7/16

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich says America is in World War III and President Bush should say so. In an interview in Bellevue this morning Gingrich said Bush should call a joint session of Congress the first week of September and talk about global military conflicts in much starker terms than has been heard from the president.

"We need to have the militancy that says 'We're not going to lose a city,'" Gingrich said. He talks about the need to recognize World War III as important for military strategy and political strategy.

Gingrich said he is "very worried" about Republican's facing fall elections and says the party must have the "nerve" to nationalize the elections and make the 2006 campaigns about a liberal Democratic agenda rather than about President Bush's record.

Gingrich says that as of now Republicans "are sailing into the wind" in congressional campaigns. he said that's in part because of the Iraq war, adding, "Iraq is hard and painful and we do not explain it very well."

Gingrich said in the coming days he plans to speak out publicly, and to the Administration, about the need to recognize that America is in World War III.

He lists wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, this week's bomb attacks in India, North Korean nuclear threats, terrorist arrests and investigations in Florida, Canada and Britain, and violence in Israel and Lebanon as evidence of World War III. He said Bush needs to deliver a speech to Congress and "connect all the dots."

Nice to see that Newt can so neatly juxtapose WWIII with Republican political expediency. This is outrageous cynicism at its very worst.

2. These fools haven't figured out that they've lost all confidence from
the people. Their lips move, but no one is listening. They're all crooks that would drag us into a war to distract us from pursuing criminal lawsuits.

14. No need to raise taxes. All they have to do is cut ALL gov't services
except war. No more Social Security, no more Medicare, no more AFDC, no more FDA to approve drugs (let anybody sell anything they want as medicine), no meat inspection (back to The Jungle we go), no Wash DC full of museums for the people. no national forests, no national parks. Etc.

It's easy.

21. That's right
We would not have been able to fight WWII without a draft, so I say it is time to start drafting now. I remember the draft, I knew very well my chances in the lottery as did all my friends and relatives. So I say bring it on.

I wonder how long it will take for people to take to the streets when their son or DAUGHTER is drafted. After all, we will need to be fair about this, so men and women need to do their part, after all this is an epic struggle, WWIII!

What a crock of crap, these repugs will do anything to scare the sheeple.....

8. Hey Newt, guess who ratcheted it up to WWIII? Your boy, Bushie!
Edited on Sun Jul-16-06 02:03 PM by mnhtnbb
Who's making money off all this war? Your Republican friends.
Who's destroying the planet while ignoring global warming? Your Republican friends. Who wants the end of the world to occur because of a bunch of looney 'prophecies' written by a bunch of sexist white men thousands of years ago?
Your righteous and holy right-wing nut Republican Christian friends.

So why the hell would anybody want to listen to somebody who's AGENDA is to destroy the world?

9. Should say, Gingrich HOPES it's WW III
Just think, they would have their excuse for keeping W in forever, using the example of FDR. "We need an experienced War President to see us through this crisis!" will be the rallying cry to overturn (or ignore) the 22nd amendment.

11. Many on this very forum have been saying it's WWIII
Just because Gingrich comes along and says it doesn't mean that it's not so. Of course, there is a distinct difference - he wants it to be "officially" labeled WWIII for political gain. We know that it's defacto WWIII just from observing what's going on and what can potentially happen.

17. Connect all what dots, Newtie? If we are in WWIII it is a war of choice by
Bush. So how does admitting that help Bush? Maybe if you dig over there Newtie you will be able to climb out of the hole.

18. "people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders"
“Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back in one piece? Naturally the common people don’t want war … That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country to decide policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, be it a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy.

All you have to do is tell them they are under attack and denounce peacemakers for exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

– Hermann Goering, Nazi Reichsmarschall

Ratcheting up the violence rather than encouraging restraint. They want WWIII.
