More Needs To Be Said About The Midsession Review

The White House's hope that its new budget numbers would dominate the economic news in the U.S. this week was completely thwarted by the impact the events in the Middle East had on gasoline prices and the stock market. By noon on Wednesday, the day after the midsession review of the budget was released, it was barely being discussed.


The president did mention it in his Saturday morning radio address, but the budget was almost completely missing from all of the Sunday talk shows.

The discussion should not have ended that quickly, however. Much more needs to be said.

First, the big news in the midsession review of the budget wasn't mentioned by the president at last Tuesday's White House ceremony: The deficit is projected to increase next year by $43 billion. .........
