Iran's Jews Steer Clear of Middle East Disaster

Just thought others may find this article interesting. It is off of beliefnet. I sometimes like to get spiritual information or info on other religions there and this is from their news section. The article seems to show there are restrictions on the Jewish people in Iran but also that attacks on them are very low and they have a token member of parliament.

Apart from times when rulers were tolerant and enforced tolerance, this is how one was treated, on good days, from Cordoba and Morocco to Sarajevo to Aleppo to Karachi.

You abide by the rules of the dominant community, and say how wonderful they are. You do not give offense. You give no signs of disagreeing. You appear to happily submit to them and what they demand. When needed, you engage in rituals that condemn your community, and say how superior those that mock you are.

In return, you're allowed to practice your religion in private, and allowed to live. You hope not to be abused. But if it happens, you put up with it. You hope to be able to repair your place of worship when it is needed. You do not stage rituals in public, most definitely not without permission from the local clerics.

Your community gets a representative; they may choose their representative, but it's explicit that the other representatives do not represent *them*. They may not run for offices other than being the rep for their community. Their reps are usually ignored; and they must be grateful for representation.

In response, the Muslim community is under a religious obligation to protect you. You agree to submit, they agree to protect. When Nasrallah speaks of freedom and democracy, this is it. The good guys have some freedom--to do good; the inferiors have to submit to the superior, and not give offense.

Things have gotten better. I'm sure they're allowed to write Arabic these days if they want to.

this sounds like a terrible trade off. Do you know what the situation in Morocco is currently like for Jews? I recently read an article talking about World War 2 when then king of Morocco refused to hand over any Jews to the Nazis and miraculously the Nazis did not invade. Many Jews of the time credited this to the fact that Jews across the nation were constantly chanting hymns from the Zohar.

Folks - looks like we're on the cusp of WWIII and the attack on Iran will be the quick destruction of the US and life as we know it.

It is with grave concern that I observe the growing threat of a new U.S. war--this time against the people of Iran.
