Iran: The Next War
by James Bamford

Even before the bombs fell on Baghdad, a group of senior Pentagon officials were plotting to invade another country. Their covert campaign once again relied on false intelligence and shady allies. But this time, the target was Iran. BY JAMES BAMFORD Page 1 2 3 4 5 6

How did the Bush administration sell the Iraq war? Check out our award-winning story on the PR machine for regime change in Iraq -- and join a reader debate: Is war with Iran unavoidable?

I. The Israeli Connection

A few blocks off Pennsylvania Avenue, the FBI's eight-story Washington field office exudes all the charm of a maximum-security prison. Its curved roof is made of thick stainless steel, the bottom three floors are wrapped in granite and limestone, hydraulic bollards protect the ramp to the four-floor garage, and bulletproof security booths guard the entrance to the narrow lobby. On the fourth floor, like a tomb within a tomb, lies the most secret room in the $100 million concrete fortress—out-of-bounds even for special agents without an escort. Here, in the Language Services Section, hundreds of linguists in padded earphones sit elbow-to-elbow in long rows, tapping computer keyboards as they eavesdrop on the phone lines of foreign embassies and other high-priority targets in the nation's capital.

At the far end of that room, on the morning of February 12th, 2003, a small group of eavesdroppers were listening intently for evidence of a treacherous crime. At the very moment that American forces were massing for an invasion of Iraq, there were indications that a rogue group of senior Pentagon officials were already conspiring to push the United States into another war—this time with Iran.

2. That's right.
They want Bush to be a "wartime" president. They want us to be afraid and maintain the illusion of Bush as our great protector and Commander in Chief, defending us against terrorism while promoting truth, justice, and the American way. It's worked before.

5. Incredible article deals with FBI's work against traitors & Iran's Chalabi
Edited on Fri Jul-28-06 06:54 PM by Democrats_win
Chalabi actually sat behind Laura Bush during the SOTUS. Most DUers know that Chalabi was an Iranian spy but this article tells the story in such a great way.

Also, Chalabi's spying for Iran put U.S. troops in danger.

Iran used Chalabi's to get the U.S. to overthrow Saddam and insert a Shiite government.

The U.S. was eves-dropping on Iranian messages because we had their encryption code. But the Iranians were tipped off. This was a terrible loss to U.S. intelligence.

Another aspect of the article deals with the pro-Israel lobby and how U.S. officials, who were neocons, committed treason by giving foreign governments classified information.

Once again, Rolling Stone shows us how evil the neocons are. Read all 6 pages at the link provided in the opening post of this thread.

6. War with Iran? Go for it, fools!
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 10:43 AM by teryang
I guess Iran won the Iran-Iraq war after all. Without firing an additional shot.

The bushista administration has bumbled its way to diaster. It's gets its strategic policy from Zionist lobbyists and Iranian agents? Talk about stupid.

After what amounts to a huge military and strategic failure in Iraq, we're supposed to assume that widening the war throughout the region will bring success? These geeks can't possibly be competent. The drawing room imagery, the intellectual pretenses, the clandestine meetings, have nothing at all to do with the tactical realities on the ground. They are legends in their own minds and no where else.

Iran is backed by two of the three major Asian land powers, both of which are nuclear armed, have advanced military technology, and huge reserves of capital, resources, and manpower. Evidently they are also a whole lot smarter than the venal idiots runnng our government.

The Asian land powers can drag us down into the ground, without breaking a sweat with only indirect support of a war in Iran.

Get real!

8. **PETITION AGAINST MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAN**

Iran = final straw for start of WWIII and the colapse of the world economy and US Martial law.

It is with grave concern that we observe the growing threat of a new U.S. war--this time against the people of Iran.

For a collection of articles and resources on this subject you can visit this link: http://reseaudesign.com/research/iran/iran_summery.html

I'm starting up a petition which I will be sending out to as many members of Congress as possible. I'm asking for help to get this signed by as many people, possible in the next month. Send it to as many people you can.

thanks,
J-shmoe
