Violent hate crime is an attack on all of us

By ROBERT L. JAMIESON Jr.
P-I COLUMNIST

The Middle East came to Seattle in a furious burst of bullets, followed by bloodshed.

People ran screaming for their lives, spilling into sunny streets, after gunfire sounded at the downtown offices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.

Police officers, with weapons drawn, sprinted to the awful scene and arrested the unhinged soul who shattered a peaceful Friday afternoon. Then they peered down alleys and scampered across rooftops in search of an accomplice who fortunately didn't exist.

The wail of ambulances and the sight of several victims bleeding on gurneys formed a scene that brought to mind the fear and carnage seen in video feeds out of Tel Aviv.

This was far from Tel Aviv.

This was Third and Lenora.

It was in our city, a politically liberal place, where we value talking through conflicts -- not punctuating talking points with hot lead.

2. good article
seattle has been notoriously and repeatedly a head in the sand city govt. when it comes to this sort of thing

mayor paul "i am not a wuss" schell (great schell quote. my all time favorite) failed, along with the police chief, to consider the possibility of rioting during the WTO conference (despite immense evidence at other locations) and thus the frigging police had to fly to idaho to procure pepper spray during the WTO riots because they RAN OUT

lol

similarly, the police response to mardi gras, where kris kime was killed due to willful police inaction, was disgusting. it is well documented that a police commander ORDERED his troops NOT to engage with the crowd. he ordered them to stand down on the corners. kris kime was subsequently killed trying to save a young woman's life

etc. etc.
