The Middle East came to Seattle in a furious burst of bullets, followed by bloodshed.
People ran screaming for their lives, spilling into sunny streets, after gunfire sounded at the downtown offices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.
Police officers, with weapons drawn, sprinted to the awful scene and arrested the unhinged soul who shattered a peaceful Friday afternoon. Then they peered down alleys and scampered across rooftops in search of an accomplice who fortunately didn't exist.
The wail of ambulances and the sight of several victims bleeding on gurneys formed a scene that brought to mind the fear and carnage seen in video feeds out of Tel Aviv.
This was far from Tel Aviv.
This was Third and Lenora.
It was in our city, a politically liberal place, where we value talking through conflicts -- not punctuating talking points with hot lead.
