The enunciation of a clear sentence about the war in Iraq by Hillary Clinton means that there must be an election coming up.
Until now, she has been unsubtly subtle about the most urgent issue facing the country, sending signals rightward, sending signals leftward, tacking here, tacking there. Some days she seemed to be signaling whether she intended to signal.

But now, suddenly, she’s a woman of passion, a model of concerned clarity. After an eon of calculated silence on most of the big moral questions of the day, there is a calculated breaking of the silence. The enigma won’t play anymore. It’s time for the drama.

1. MAUREEN DOWD calling Hillary Clinton a harridan?

Good Lord...that slattern, that virago, isn't fit to walk through Senator Clinton's shadow. What a world, what a world!

2. If Dowd could lose about half of her metaphors & allusions, and stop

being so too clever by half, she might write a decent commentary. She is a supremely annoying read.

3. she's a war crook too, imo...

like julius streicher was for an earlier fascist movement, she was among those vital to the overturning of decency and establishment of the bush reich....it was the dowds who forced the clintons to support the iraq war resolution (and whether that exxonerates the clintons is still up in the air)

4. Well,

the opinions of various esteemed members notwithstanding, I still think that Ms. Dowd has tremendous command of wit, humor, entendre, apt literary (and self) reference, and style.

Take for example: "During the hearing, Hillary unmanned Rummy, as Shakespeare would say, accusing him of incompetence, impotence and improbity."

Talk about your proverbial kick-to-the-crotch.

...And with those pointy-toed shoes too. (It's a matter of design -- the point for penetration -- and the wide part of the foot for flattening.)

But I bet Rummy knows about those little pills you can take...

Nonetheless, methinks she's quite simply the best.
