Gazprom's huge Venezuela gas deal alarms US
Gazprom's huge Venezuela gas deal alarms US

The Observer

Gazprom, Russia's state-controlled gas company, is risking a diplomatic row with the United States over a mooted multibillion-dollar pipeline investment in Venezuela.
The Russian gas giant is close to a deal on the project, according to Venezuela's firebrand President, Hugo Chavez, who has led opposition to US influence in Latin America.

News of the possible tie-up follows Gazprom's recently declared interest in investing in Bolivia, another regional enemy of the US, and is the latest sign of Moscow's deteriorating relationship with Washington.

It comes after the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, failed at the G8 summit in St Petersburg in July to secure American support for its entry to the World Trade Organisation.

2. K&R
and yet another example of the unbelievable incompetence of the bush administration.

We are methodically destroying our relationships with every country we rely upon for imported energy.

Breathtaking stupidity.

5. Thanks for posting, drduffy.
I believe I read something about this, a few months ago. There was some small reference to this.

Actually....(remembering now)...Hugo Chavez signed a contract with Russia to buy a huge amount of oil which would be delivered around the end of the year. This raised some eyebrows here at the DU. Several people wondered why Chavez (who is an oil producer) would need to divert Russian oil which would be going to Europe. Hm....

It's obvious that other countries, are making plans which exclude the U.S. We are getting left out in the cold.

But I also believe leaders (oil producers) will need to be very, very careful. They can't provoke the US too much, because things are going to get really dicey soon.

.....with the Alaska pipeline shut down, indefinitely it looks like.....
