NC paper (home of 82nd Airborne) is tired of the "with us or the terrorist
crap out of DC. And they call Cheney and Lieberman on it. Not a solid blue area, this is the heart of Southern redness:

Terrifying, of course, is exactly what it was supposed to be. Even though the plot was apparently foiled, it threw a wave of fear over Americans and Europeans and drew a dramatic reaction. The terrorists were at least somewhat effective, even in failure.

Something else verges on terrifying too. The reactions by some of our politicians were a chilling reminder of their willingness to use our fear to further their own agenda.

The terrorists aren’t attacking one political party. They are attacking all of us. Politicians can, and should, debate our strategy against terrorists and the course of the war in Iraq. But questioning each other’s patriotism or resolve against terrorists should be out of bounds. It is unnecessary and divisive. And it is, quite simply, a diversionary tactic. Members of both parties have repeatedly shown by their votes strong support for the war against terror.

But even as British police were arresting some of the terror plot suspects, Vice President Dick Cheney was sounding off on Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman’s primary defeat by a businessman who successfully made opposition to the Iraq war the centerpiece of his campaign. It shows “the direction the party appears to be heading,” Cheney said. “What is particularly disturbing about it is from the standpoint of our adversaries. ... They are betting on the proposition that ultimately they can break the will of the American people in our ability to stay in the fight and complete the task.” Voting against Lieberman, he said, is encouraging “the al Qaida types.”

1. I am sick of Republican bullies

Everytime one of them or their supporters in the M$M do this to someone they need to be called on it. It is time to stop the name calling and putdowns. We need to quit wasting time on distractions and nonsense and work together to solve the major problems we are now facing.

You ain't kidding when you say Fayetteville is the heart of redness.
When the Fayetteville Observer starts printing stuff like this,
I'm honestly tempted to actually have some HOPE for the future again.

This is HUGH!!

I say again: Holy CRAP!!!!!

6. Not familiar with the political climate in the area, so I'll take your
word for it. I'm glad to hear the truth is finally being printed. I have a friend in North Carolina, and he's a Republican. I don't communicate with him now as much as I did, and his wife (a very smart lady) is a Democrat, so I'm sure she spends a lot of time rolling her eyes and confronting him with facts.

I hope this is just another small example of how the media (or some of the media) is presenting more accurate information.

7. Fayetteville isn't just another "red" town...
It is geographically, politically, socially, and financially
a SUBURB of Fort Bragg.
There's really no better way to explain it.

16. I spent 6 years in Fayettnam.
You couldn't find a redder area. Frankly, if Bragg weren't there I think the city would dry up and blow away.

11. Wow
This is not just Fayetteville, to us native North Carolinians this is FayetNam.

My family is from the area and this really is unexpected. I can't believe that a paper in the heart of darkness published this.

Oh my, where are Bush and Cheney going to go for photo ops when the FayetNam newspaper publishes an opinion piece like this?

14. The Ruling Party Calls Dem Candidates and Voters "Terrorists". Publicly.
Certain members of our Government and Media are publicly and repeatedly calling Democrats "traitors" and "terrorists".

The US Media asked if a prominent Democrat was an "al Quaeda candidate".

I'm certain the ruling party wishes to provoke violence and certain members have clearly become unhinged. This is a shocking and dangerous development--accusing Democrats of crimes against the Government and civilians. Most of these crimes are capital offenses, btw.

It is time to demand the immediate resignation of these SUBVERSIVE EXTREMISTS.

5. Yep, even Joe Redstater is beginning to see through republican lies
I think it's beginning to dawn on folks that, after 3.5 years and 500 billion dollars, the Iraq War hasn't made the US any safer against terrorism.

12. Actually, it's made us weaker like the dumb RW'ers can't imagine.
And it's made China & North Korea a lot stronger because it's made us weaker (like the dumb RW'ers could never imagine even if they tried).

But the havemores R a damn lot better off, so they R happy.

9. I love this part!!
"The voters know the difference between our Iraq war problems and the overall effort against terror. Politicians would be wise to remember that."

I'm starting to think they finally do. Seeing this in a paper anywhere in NC is a great sign than Americans are finally opening their eyes.

:headbang:

Exactly. The terrorists are trying to scare us. Fearmongering like BushCo engages in is what really helps them. So who is aiding the terrorists?
