Conservatives Love Government

All the right's rhetoric about "government isn't the solution to the problem, government is the problem" has always struck me as horsehooey of the first order. To them, government that helps everyday people is "socialism" which is evil because, they believe, nothing should be done unless someone can make a buck off it.

Conservatives began with their hatred of FDR/government, but has, since, morphed into opposing government activities that interfere with the market and supporting government activities that control the social order.

This from his new book "Conservatives without Conscience" BTW.

He says there are numerous varieties of "conservatives" now, but two characteristics bind them together: Resisting change, and accepting differences in how people are treated by the group.
