I am here to tell you, welfare moms are our newest "Tom Joads" and some of them are kicking ass and taking names. I hope I am one of them.

I thought it notable that Walmart exploited welfare reform. Welfare reform meant that those who found low-wage jobs could keep their Medicaid benefits. Walmart exploited that by sending their employees to the county government for health care "coverage" instead of Walmart paying for it.

7. Oh, They Do Worse Than That |
|
Their refusal to allow unionization is another way they want to ensure they have a continual supply of exhausted welfare moms to lock in their stores at night after closing time and force them to work for nothing. I refuse to step foot in a WalMart and I have told them why.

13. Well, your name is common enough that |
|
most of the assholes who would harass you (although Seattle is pretty progressive, I hear) would have to get through a bunch of other innocents to terrorize you specifically ...
Check your phone book about tracing calls that are harassing ... I had that experience for about a week ...

15. national test scores fall along socio-economic lines |
|
If a president wants to raise test scores, he should start with raising the minimum wage. He won't do that because he needs to keep the economy depressed in order to encourage military enlistments. He needs enlistments more than ever, which means he'll have to pull strings to depress the income of Americans even more than he already has.

20. To get ths 'printed on DU' - I presume you mean put on the front page |
|
I would think you would need to post the whole thing in Editorials or GD (as the author, I presume you still have the right to do that - that the PI doesn't own the whole copyright), add it to your DU Journal, and then you, or we, alert the DU admin as to how good it is. I'm happy to do the last part. I think it's up to admin to decide, but I'd say it's definitely deserves to be there on grounds of quality and general interest to DU.
