Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein is being made to watch his appearance in cult cartoon South Park while he is behind bars.

The deposed leader on trial in Iraq was featured in the movie spin-off as the lover of the devil. South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut featured Hussein and Satan attempting to take over the world together.

Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone said US Marines guarding the former dictator during his trial for genocide were making him watch the movie "repeatedly".

i don't feel that some jarhead's whim is not a good basis for his daily torment (or entertainment, whatever). i'm not even bothering to open the idea that it's cruel or unusual. if they've decided that they want to torment saddm, then, they should put it on paper, so that he doesn't join lindy and the rest of those putz'

One of the problems we have in dealing with foreigners is that all of our references are from American culture, and are likely unknown outside of our borders. I suggest that our showing South Park episodes to Saddam is a metaphor for both our tactics and failures in Iraq on the whole. Not that unilaterally invading a country is ever a good idea, however.
