Why did Foley keep child-protection job?
Posted by Frank James at 8:00 am CDT, revised at 2:55 pm CDT

.. One of the most troubling parts of the emerging scandal involving former Rep. Mark Foley, the Florida Republican who sent sexually suggestive emails to teenaged congressional pages, is this: he chaired the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children.

Foley carved out a role for himself as a congressional leader on the issue of exploited children, and is credited with authoring important sections of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 ..

Another difficult aspect of the story is how the House Republican leadership dealt with Foley. According to a story in the Washington Post, House Majority Leader Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) at the very least knew about Foley's "inappropriate contact" with a minor months ago ..

And Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.) who oversees the congressional pages as head of the Page Board, the group responsible for the teenagers who work essentially as gofers and doorholders for lawmakers, knew even earlier ..

3. Why? Because the ReNAMBLAcans knew him to be the best man
for the job.

And for once, I'm not being sarcastic.

I think he was keeping them posted on how best to evade the law, and maybe helping them scout out fresh meat.

4. Gofers and doorholders?
And secretaries, couriers, and waiters. Pages also run up the flag when the chamber goes into session, and run the votes from the well up to the floor. And they manage to cram 4 hours of school in each day between 6am and 10am, all for way below minimum wage.

Ah, those were the days... I'm just glad Foley wasn't in Congress when I was a page...

6. Because that's the Repuke way.
"Clear Skies Initiative" increases pollution. "Healthy Forest's Initiative" cuts down forests. "Women's Right to Know" decreases information given to women about their health. So it follows that a pedophile would be in charge of a caucus on missing and exploited children.

It's backward world!
