GOP Hitman Matt Drudge Blames Kids For "Playing Foley"
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 09:09 AM by Mark E. Smith
The Huffington Post
Jane Hamsher

The Republican coverup for La Cage Aux Foley has put the tentacles of the right wing
noise machine into overdrive. Did you ever wonder how low they could limbo to keep
themselves in power? Wonder no more! Making excuses for sexual predators who abuse
their authority as elected officials and prey on kids online? No problem!

Please please listen to these Matt Drudge radio clips (see cite for link) at Crooks & Liars,
because this is where the GOP Protection Racket that Hastert has run for years is going
with this. Drudge is, after all, their flagship:
--------------
Clip #1: And if anything, these kids are less innocent -- these 16 and 17 year-old
beasts...and I've seen what they're doing on YouTube and I've seen what they're doing
all over the internet--oh yeah--you just have to tune into any part of their pop culture.
You're not going to tell me these are innocent babies. Have you read the transcripts that
ABC posted going into the weekend of these instant messages, back and forth? The
kids are egging the Congressman on!
The kids are trying to get this out of him. We
haven't got the whole story on this.
--------------
I'm sorry but this really does take the cake for just about the worst thing I've ever seen
the right wing try to apologize for. Isn't that what pedophiles always say? It's the kid's
fault ...

1. Ah yes, the old excuse. "The kids were flirting with him."
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 09:11 AM by Akoto
Bull.

What happened? These kids, being in the page program, clearly had an interest in a political career. I'm sure they felt, at least to some degree, that rejecting the advances of a senior congressman might jeopardize those aspirations.

12. I don't care if a 16 yo is the biggest brat, the most manipulative
cretin.... No 50 plus year old man--much less one in a position of tremendous authority over said 16 year old has ANY defense for this behavior. I am amazed wakeme2008 that you seem to agree that the 16 year old is culpable. I don't know why they saved their IM logs, but it is certainly plausible they might have done so to share with other pages--to warn THEM. Even if they did so, just to make fun of Foley--or even to try to blackmail him, that DOES NOT CONDONE WHAT FOLEY DID.

Foley can have any cybersex talk he wants--with a consenting adult. I could care less.

HE KNEW these were adolescents, kids.

blackmail 101?

Still, a minor is not someone to get your "rocks off" on.

The responsibility is always with the adult to not seduce those who are underage.

4. Sort of a twist on how they turned their backs on the soldiers.
"They volunteered, so they knew what they were getting into." And now they're blaming the pages for teasing and seducing Foley. How pathetic. I'm more inclined to believe that IF Foley bought into the Republican moralist culture, that he was repressed during a critical stage of his sexual development and THAT's why he likes little boys. It's all about the unnatural over-moralizing from the right.

11. Oh, and the Democrats are to blame. They are playing politics
and this will backfire on us. We must of known about all of this and did nothing until this close to the election. Nothing at all about the poor victims and just how disgusting this whole thing is. I can't even read the e-mail messages without getting disgusted.

Can you believe these people?

15. What would it matter if it were true?
I mean, give Drudge all his excuses, and what would it mean say, to the parents of any teenager? Would it mean that Foley or any person of his age and status is not responsible? No, of course not. But I wish the Republican Party would strike this tone as a strategy. We'd be rid of them for sure, then.

17. Oh Puleeze
If a 16-year-old page had stripped nude in front of him, and begged him, were Foley a decent man he would have said, "son, put your clothes back on please." WTF? If the kid was looking for leverage (blackmail maybe) to get ahead, again, if he were a decent man it would be no issue.

18. This is BULLSHIT!
It is not like Mr. Foley was a 19 to 21 year old young man! Mr. Foley is a grown man, that just couldn't say (NO!). Or (Look kids you are here to do business and only business). There are a ton of different way ways any grown person can rebuff a pass from some one. It just comes down that Mr. Foley likes teenage boy's.

Idiot!
