'Ten Reasons Why Men Should Not Be Ordained' (will offend some)
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 08:56 PM by bobbieinok
(This has apparently been passing around for a while, but I just found it. The reasons are clearly mirror images of the reasons given why women should not be ordained.)

Top Ten Reasons Why Men Should Not Be Ordained

10. A man's place is in the army.

9. For men who have children, their duties might distract them from the responsibilities of being a parent.

8. Their physical build indicates that men are more suited to tasks such as chopping down trees and wrestling mountain lions. It would be "unnatural" for them to do other forms of work.

7. Man was created before woman. It is therefore obvious that man was a prototype. Thus, they represent an experiment, rather than the crowning achievement of creation.

6. Men are too emotional to be priests or pastors. This is easily demonstrated by their conduct at football games and watching basketball tournaments.

5. Some men are handsome; they will distract women worshipers.

4. To be ordained pastor is to nurture the congregation. But this is not a traditional male role. Rather, throughout history, women have been considered to be not only more skilled than men at nurturing, but also more frequently attracted to it. This makes them the obvious choice for ordination.

3. Men are overly prone to violence. No really manly man wants to settle disputes by any means other than by fighting about it. Thus, they would be poor role models, as well as being dangerously unstable in positions of leadership.

2. Men can still be involved in church activities, even without being ordained. They can sweep paths, repair the church roof, and maybe even lead the singing on Father's Day. By confining themselves to such traditional male roles, they can still be vitally important in the life of the Church.

1. In the New Testament account, the person who betrayed Jesus was a man. Thus, his lack of faith and ensuing punishment stands as a symbol of the subordinated position that all men should take.

1. Interesting Twist
If I thought this was serious rather than academic, it might be offensive.

2. The angriest I ever saw my mother get
was when a stuffed shirt of a priest gave a sermon on how the only place for women in the church was cleaning it. I have always been disappointed in her for not walking out (no, I wasn't there, but I sure heard about it).

The angriest I ever got was when that same stuffed shirt came into a classroom full of 10 year old girls and told us our duty was to die in childbirth because the baby might be a boy.

I left Catholic school that year.

Father Stuffed Shirt was caught a couple of years later banging one of the female teachers in the school. He was defrocked and married her. I've always felt very sorry for that poor woman.

If some men get offended by the OP, they should realize it's about 1% of the stuff we get every day that offends us.

11. Men are much more likely than women to be involved in sex scandals and sex scandals can bring disrepute to a church.

7. I would add one more
Judging by His domineering and rather erratic behavior God is obviously a guy and Jesus is too, albeit a little more stable than the Old Man, and I would say that's plenty of guys right there.

8. originally, it was reasons men should not vote:

Alice Duer Miller wrote this parody in 1915, in response to arguments that women didn't really want to vote and probably weren't qualified to exercise the vote if they did get it:

Why We Don't Want Men to Vote

• Because man's place is in the army.

• Because no really manly man wants to settle any question otherwise than by fighting about it.

• Because if men should adopt peaceable methods women will no longer look up to them.

• Because men will lose their charm if they step out of their natural sphere and interest themselves in other matters than feats of arms, uniforms, and drums.

• Because men are too emotional to vote. Their conduct at baseball games and political conventions shows this, while their innate tendency to appeal to force renders them unfit for government.
